Harpomatic
Hello everyone, I am a brand new Dodge Journey owner and I had the car for just 9 days now. Last night I was looking for a parking space, and all of a sudden the car just sputtered and died. The battery is ok and allowed me to try several times to restart the car, but it just wouldn’t ignite. After a few minutes it was giving signals of a little diesel reaching the engine again, just a few coughs. It took more than 10 minutes to start again, and it definitely sounded like there was no diesel reaching the engine. Now, no leaks at all, half tank of diesel, no lights on the dashboard. I diagnosed the car today with the FIXD device and all seems ok. Any ideas on what causes it on how this can be resolved? Should I get straight back to the dealership to get it fixed? Is it actually fixable? Thanks!
5rebel9
9 DAYS?....YES get it back to the dealer with giving the same info you posted here. Hard to say anything constructive as the only real info you gave here is the YEAR of the vehicle and it's a Diesel model being in the EU market. A lot of members here on the forum are from the NA market with diesels being few in number if they were even marketed here. Good Luck to you and report back any progress for the benefit of ALL the members here! All I can offer is that the 2.0L CRD is a VW motor. What electricals to operate it is up to Daimler /Chrysler era folks. jkeaton and Harpomatic
Summer Solstice
Back to the dealer it goes. No point in speculations until you know how the dealer will stand behind this. They are as much on trial here as the vehicle. Being able to trust the dealer inproves your chances of enjoying the vehicle considerably. 5rebel9 and jkeaton
Armando G
I assume the vehicle was brought to a mechanic before purchase, just 9 days ago? With it being an '09, diesel, and you probably not knowing too much of the history, anything would be speculation. If they have injectors, could be that. If they have fuel filter, could be that. If they have a fuel pump, could be that. Etc,etc,etc... I'm not familiar with diesel, but hopefully you had it checked by someone who is. Go back to the dealer and see what they say. jkeaton
Harpomatic
Thanks everyone. It is back at the dealership and will be looked at in two days...? I will report back! 5rebel9
5rebel9
Hope it turns out to be something minor for the vehicle for you. That motor does have a pretty good reputation from what I have read about it on other forums I participate on. Looking forward to updates from you! Harpomatic
Right, the car came back with no diagnosis. No errors recorded in the car computer. I spoke to the mechanic and we went through a few possibilities, but it’s unclear what it might be caused by. It certainly looks like diesel was bot reaching the injectors anymore, and then it came through again. Having half a tank a sloshing dragging dirt from the bottom of the tank into the fuel pump is unlikely. And the fuel filter won’t get completed clogged and then just work again. So we are left wondering. I’m thinking of giving it back to the dealership Edited October 30, 2020 by Harpomatic
5rebel9
I know Diesels are the most common motors used in the EU/UK market, but in the NA market very few passenger vehicles are commonly equipped with the CRD. Wish I could be of more help, but I don't have much experience with these and being one of those vehicles with the controls on the wrong side of the vehicle!...LOL Everyone wants to be assured of dependable service when getting a vehicle, so I can't blame you for your last statement. Good Luck and please tell us how this ends up.
Summer Solstice
It would make me very uncomfortable that the seller can find nothing and return it to you with nothing done. What kind of warranty are they giving you and will they cover this if it returns in 1 week? Is this a legitimate dealer or an attempt to run the clock out on a new sale? Take this into consideration when deciding if keeping the vehicle is worth the gamble.

Come to think of this , this IS an 09 model and just know that it is somewhere in the EU market...Is the UK considered part of the EU, and didn't Dodge close out of the UK a few years ago? If so, then this could NOT be an official Dodge Dealer.
Harpomatic
It certainly is not a Dodge dealer, it’s a used car dealership. That’s why I am not trusting that they can solve the issue. Thanks for everyone’s input!
