Hatch door alarm & light

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 2019 Journey. When the rear hatch is open the light is on and the open door alarm dings. Both continue as long as the hatch is open. There are times when I want to keep the hatch open for extended periods. I cannot find how to turn the light off or disable the alarm.

Weird.

Are you talking about the key-fob bell, or the Headlight bell?

1) The headlights/parking lights are on and ANY door is open. (the bell is silent if all the doors are closed)

2) The car does not detect the key-fob and the ignition is in either ACC or ON

OR are you talking about the door ajar alarm while driving with the hatch open?
I've never noticed the door ajar bell on the '11 DJ, but I suspect if it had, the wind noise or the loud radio cover it up while I drive. I don't know how to disable this if it exists. But I do know how annoying it can be from my parent's Toyota Minivan which will not shut up for a second if a door is ajar, or a seatbelt is unbucked.

I am talking about the light on the rear door (hatch). When the car is parked, and the engine off, and the hatch is open, the light on the hatch stays on and the door-open alarm dings. I have had many different cars with rear door lights. They always had a switch on the door that allowed you to choose light on or off. There is no such switch on this car.

Sounds like the car isn’t shutting the electronics down. I can open my tailgate, no ding and dome lights shutoff after a couple mins. If your under warranty take it in.  The not shutting down can cause a no start issue....

try leaving your key fob in the journey with the hatch open......are you leaving the engine run as well?if car is running and fob is outside the vech the dinging continues till you get back in with the fob

No, the car is not running. From some of the responses, I think I may have been unclear as to the problem. Let me put it this way. I go camping. I pull my car in to the camp site. I turn the car off. I get out of the car. I open the rear hatch to start removing my camping stuff: tent, tarp, chairs, etc. Even after I have removed most of the camp stuff, I want to leave the hatch open as there is a large cooler of beer with ice in there. It is more convenient to leave the hatch open than be opening and closing it every few minutes as people get stuff out of the coolers. So, I want to leave the hatch open. Car turned off. FOB in my pocket. But, if I do that, the light on the hatch (rear door) stays on and the open-door alarm dings continuously. Every other vehicle I have ever had with a hatch had a switch that you used to turn the light off, turn it on and stay on when car engine is off, or auto setting to stay on briefly after opened. This car has no switch to shut the light off.
