Riddledessence
Looking for ideas and advice. I have a 2009 dodge journey rt 3.5 l, 123000 miles. Driving the car was stuck in 2nd gear couldn't get above 38 mph as my rpm's were at 3500. Had it towed home, upon getting it home it finally had a check engine the code P038 transmission pressure sensor. Since the transmission is dealer service only I took it to Dodge Service Center. When I took it to dodge it had no light and drove fine there. Dodge says they dont see a code or a saved code, but my transmission level was good but it was degraded, so we opted to have them flush the transmission. We will leave out the amount we paid for it. And a week without the car. I have had it back for a week today. On my way home from work with my 7 yr old in tow, the car does the same thing again. Can't get it above 38 mpg rpm at 3500. I pulled over and no check engine. Waited 15 minutes started it back up and was able to drive home without an issue. Anyone have ideas as to what in heck could be the issue or anyone experience anything like this? I am taking it back to dodge tomorrow morning and I feel like my nice is leaving the building with them and this entire vehicle.
2late4u
should have drove it to the dealership while it was still doing what you described and let them drive it then they would be able to have worked on it, i know it was inconvenient but that is how it works. or might take it to a regular transmission shop as they are now able to work on them as well since you know the code # ...hope you get it fixed and please report back on what you find out for others that might have this happen to them
Armando G
Hopefully it's not the same as my situation, but I had the same symptoms back in October of last year and ended up having to replace the transmission (i was still under warranty). I received that code and a couple others after limping home twice at about 30MPH and it took the dealership about 2 weeks to make the determination. It was a bit of an ugly fight. From what I understood, the transmission was failing and causing that code, and after they changed the sensor it actually got worse. If you are not happy with them, see if a local transmission shop will take a look. Good luck 2late4u
SRfR
Definitely bad transmission. I had the same problem with the 62TE going into limp mode (2nd gear only) and check engine light code was for Shifter solenoid, but Transmission shop told me if code is saying solenoid then best to replace trans cause if it's not the shift solenoid then the bad trans is going to break the new shift solenoid if that's all you get replaced.
