2015 SXT Push to Start Button Worn Face

Recommended Posts

So, I just bought a 2015 Journey SXT a few days ago. It started out life as a rental, so the button has been pressed so many times that somehow to outer black paint and logos have worn away, leaving and ugly clear spot in the middle of the button where you can see through to the illumination LEDs.

I was just wondering if it was possible to replace just the button face by itself or if I'm stuck having to get a whole new module assembly for it and if I do chose to try to fix it up and make it look pretty, just how hard is it to remove and will removing it cause any problems with the ignition/security system that I should be aware of before attempting to take it out? I don't want to brick my new car because I didn't like a button.

I’m pretty sure you have to replace entire switch. If you have experience with taking dash’s apart it’s doable but awkward.

Plastic trim removal tool and patience. There are utube video clips. Either remove radio and go through opening or remove trim below switch and reach up from under neath to release clips. Damaging old switch not an issue on removal. Part should be plug and play no programming. Not cheap around $100 in Canadian pesos for OEM.

Awesome, thanks a bunch!

It looks like I might have to play around with the old one when I get the new one, see if I can't disassemble it. Might be some interesting modding possibilities there for sure. Different button/backlight color maybe? Could be an interesting avenue of investigation.

Just a thought, there are tons of people who can make quality custom stickers, maybe have one made that resembles the existing logo.

I was considering it. The main thing I'm worried about with that route is having the sticker just peel off after a few thousand miles and having to constantly replace it.

I ordered a new one for 65 off R.A. yesterday. Once it comes in Ill be taking the old one out and taking it to a friend's place that has a 3d printer that can do parts at almost finished goods quality in ABS. I'm thinking I could 3d print out a replacement face for it. Maybe design the logos into the plastic itself and paint them after its done and fitted.

From what Ive seen in pictures I've looked up it doesn't look like the module itself will be all that hard to disassemble. I have the security bits to remove the two screws holding the main body together and I'm used to non destructively opening fiddly plastic cases from my days repairing phones. The only thing that would really hinder me getting it apart would be if the body is ultrasonic welded together as well as screwed and clipped.
