Bradleyoheron
Hello, I after help and opinions Im reluctant now on the opinion of the mechanic and seeking second opinions on what could be the problem with he engine and turbo. My car model is: Dodge Journey 2009 CRD 2.0 Diesel 190,000km Symptoms ECU error code P0299 Low boot pressure - limp mode activates but will go away after engine is turned off Black smoke from exhaust, especially under load like going up hill When engine its about 2200RPM the engine light will come on and limp mode activated I think I also have Blow-By as is a slight smoke and air pressure from oil cap Found a green hose from part of the turbo vacuum system with a screw and cable tie at the end I recently had a mechanic repair my Dodge Journey as the car had gone into the major limp mode. It couldn’t rev higher then 1500rpm in gear Black smoke from exhaust The car was towed to the mechanic. He did a full code error diagnosis and mechanical diagnosis costing close to $1,000 just for the diagnosis ! “see photo of attached invoice” His diagnosis was the car had a faulty EGR valve and also the air intake hose had a split in it near the turbo. With repair costs of those 2 items another $1,000 He replaced the EGR valve and fixe the hose. I was told some black smoke was still coming out of the exhaust but is must likely because of the carbon build up in the manifold and exhaust with the faulty EGR valve. Apart from that he said the car runs fine and was ready for collection “on invoice it also said car now tested and runs in all RPM range” When I collected the car I was told the car is a bit jumpy with the gear box and engine because the computer has been reset and needs to re-learn again, also with the smoke just to drive it a good 200km to clear out the carbon from the exhaust. I literally drove it 15km and it was jumpy with smoke like he said in town but once I got onto the highway with speed 100km the engine light comes on and back into limp mode capped at 80km 2000rpm. I pulled over turned car off and restarted and the engine light had disappeared. My house was another 5km and the mechanic shop was closed so I took it home. At home I have a basic OBD reader and got the car to re make the engine light come on and had error code P0299 low boost pressure I called the mechanic the next day, told him the problem and code. His reply was he thinks its the manifold with too much carbon deposit and to keep driving it 200km then bring it back in to the shop if it still hasn’t gotten better. Im not a mechanic …just a YouTube advice seeker I did try to check for any air leaks in the turbo hoses and found a green hose not attached to anything with a screw and cable tie at the end blocking the hose? I also noticed a very faint smoke from the hose to the air intake pipe near the turbo, I took the oil cap off and was slight smoke So I started engine to see if was any blow-by and was smoke “about as much as a and enough air pressure to spit some oil out “ about as hard as a person could blow air” Could this blow by be related to the manifold carbon build up ? I read it’s normally really bad to have any air or smoke from the oil cap. I can’t see how the mechanic would miss such a simple thing? Im reluctant now on the opinion of the mechanic and seeking second opinions on what could be the problem with the engine and turbo.
