2010 RT AWD front gearbox failure

Recommended Posts

While I was driving I heard a bang, then a constant knocking sound.  At first thought I blew a tire because I could smell something like burning rubber.  When I got home I looked under the vehicle and I could see transmission had leaked all over the exhaust.  I took a couple photos of the side of the gearbox (the driveshaft going to the Front passenger tire, and it looks like something broke of the side of the gearbox.  The transmission makes a horrible knocking sound, so I assume I nee to replace the entire gearbox.  In Canada what is the typical cost for this fix?

I don’t think it’s the transfer case.

Front drive shafts come out of the transaxle part of transmission. Unfortunately I think you will need new tranny if the aluminum casing is cracked. . Could try reman or wrecker units with lower miles, LKQ useful.

Could be just a blown c/v shaft which took out lip seal on side of tranny and caused leak. Maybe fixable and no new tranny if your lucky. Don’t drive it further, tow it.
