Has a tick even before start the car

Wife’s car has a click or ticking noise, maybe 3x per second, before you ever even start the car. Open the door to get in the car after it’s been off, and it starts clicking behind glove box. Keeps doing it after you start the car for the first 30 seconds or so. We have had climate control issues as well, such as replacing blend door, and now have a problem with the climate control unit. When you start the car, climate control switches to defrost vents only, then back to current setting, and switches to heat for a few seconds before back to a/c. This climate control problem, the mechanic told me, isn’t really fixable without replacing the whole climate control unit, which we’re not doing on a car with this many miles.
Could the click/tick be related? and why would it do it when the car isn’t even turned on?

first off find a different mechanic,or at least get a second opinion, the clicking noise is your blend door actuator   resetting once they get power which is when you open your doors or resetting after you turn off the car and you get out      it should stop after shutting off your car just sit in there for a  1 minutes without touching anything,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,......from google........

How do I know if my blend door actuator is bad?
When you start the car, or just the AC system, and notice a knocking sound like someone tapping on your door, that is indicative of a problem with the blend door actuator. Inconsistent Airflow: If the blend door is moving back and forth, then the airflow will be diverted incorrectly or maintained incorrectly.

Also note that there is more than one actuator. Typically there is 1 on each side, under the dash, for right and left. There is a 3rd, on the right, same general area as the other one on the right. This one controls the overall mix of air from the outside. They are often all 3 the same part. You have to identify which one is failing.
