RoadWarrior
Sometimes when I try and start my 09 Journey SXT it will just click at the strater. I turn the key and after the 3 or 4th turns it starts. Its just started this recently. I don't want to get stuck somewhere! And sometimes It runs for 2 -3 seconds and shuts off. The check engine light came on a few weeks ago but went off. Monday I will get it code scanned. Would it be the key fob? Or something in the switch? Any help or advice would be appreiciated . Thanks! WOLF
could be the WIM (ignition module) unit, the key(fob thingy) will go in and turn but the code is not always read/accepted and so the immobilizer on the engine fails to turn off... this item failure can "Start" by occasional non starting/ stopping of engine........ RoadWarrior
I had the Dodge dealer replace the key fob. They covered it under warranty Which was nice! but that didn't fix the problem. Another garage just replaced the starter but that wasn't it either. I'm thinking its the Neutral Safety Switch because yesterday it did start in neutral. wejourney
the same thing has happened to us in our 09 journey as well. We actually took it to the dealer but they say they couldn't duplicate the problem., nor could they find any thing wrong. So I guess we'll wait and see
mcoufi
I have 2009 Journey SE with 44000 miles. The car didn't start for the first time last night. The base model didn't come with key fob, so I have only regular key. Tried to start it couple times and nothing happened. All control lights light up, radio and lights worded fine, it just didn't want to start. It's not battery or starter, i have read that many owners have problem with WIN module but my question is if all trims are equipped with the same module? Like I said my model doesn't have that fancy key fob. After around an hour of left alone the car started right away so I was able to go back home. Today in the morning the same thing happened ... it started after couple minutes of trying and after it starts I'm able to turn it off and and start it up again without any problems... Now is that part of one of many recalls for this model ? Since my BtB warranty is over would I have to pay for replacing that module at the dealership ? How much may it cost ? I think that it is ridiculous that 1 year old car is starting to have issues mine...
OhareFred
I had the Dodge dealer replace the key fob. They covered it under warranty Which was nice! but that didn't fix the problem. Another garage just replaced the starter but that wasn't it either. I'm thinking its the Neutral Safety Switch because yesterday it did start in neutral. The neutral safety switch prevents the car from being started IN GEAR. You should be able to start the car in park or neutral. If the car starts while in drive, then your neutral safety switch is bad.

The key has immobilizer build in it so it's either that or WIN module. If your car is still under warranty go to dealership and they will fix it for free, if not like my case I was told that new key with cutting and programming is $200, or to replace WIN module $600 with labor... But to be sure the have to run diagnose and that's $120... so much for after sale customer service - and my car is one year old...
mcoufi
I went to dealership in VA, they run the diagnose and I was told that the WIN module doesn't recognize the key chip, which was very rare according to them. They said most of the time ( looks like dodge knows about the problem but doesn't give a shit it's WIN, starter o the whole communication board ). Had to get 2 new keys, i was so happy that it wasn't anything more serious ... a little bit to early... After several days the car didn't start neither with new or old key. I have waited 2 hours brought a spare set of keys (the second one made by them) and the car started... Looks like I have to go back and have them look at it again... Too bad the didn't do it right for the first time. I'm just hoping I can get it fixed and probably will try to sell it and never again buy another dodge, chrysler or chevy... jmoniz00
Hi. I have a 08 Dodge Journey 2.0 CRD R/T with 6 manual gear box. I had the same problem, and after 2 days of tests at the local dealer, they didn't find any problem with the car. They only made a "RESET" to all system to put it with the factory settings. Until today, the problem never appeard again.

mcoufi
I think I saw that note, I'm attaching it for everyone. Unfortunately is only for cars unsold and under warranty... if you have a different one please share it with us. I've just got my car from service. They said that it was a starter ... damage $90 for starter, $170 to replace it... The guy who work on it told me that model brakes a lot has many issues and even small repairs will cost a lot... I hope it will work fine now... wk_rapid_response_09-025.pdf
berner
Yes this it the one a was talking about. But the workshop can see the DTC when they connect the witech pod. The DTC code is lost communication with WCM. If the Fob is broken it will say invalid skim key and they will only replace the damage key ( FOB )
