I called a mechanic I know who has exponentially more knowledge than my pitiful excuse for amateur knowledge, and he sent a tow truck. It’s now in the hands of the professionals. Brother_Dave Posted October 20, 2021 Author Report Share Posted October 20, 2021 I’ve waited to update this thread until I was sure it was “fixed”. It’s been running two months but I’m still not convinced. i sent it to my mechanic and he replaced several parts; rf module, fr module, and ignition module. Everything was fine for about a day. The next day it went back to being possessed, and ultimately back to the shop. This time he had me a new key made (the one I had was aftermarket and had its own issues) and cleaned up the connections to the fuse box under the hood and the ABS. He kept it a few more days after that to ensure it wouldn’t fail on me again. I got it back later that week and it has been running like a champ ever since. At a bit of a loss as to the "rf and fr modules", I understand the rest of replaced components. YUP, gotta be careful with these computer sized wiring cars now. Brother_Dave Posted December 7, 2021 Author Report Share Posted December 7, 2021 Looks like I may have jinxed it. It started the possessed routine this morning after 4 months of being “ok”. It’s currently on the way to the shop but I noticed something curious. I started it this morning with no problem. I was letting it warm up for a few minutes. I noticed that when it started the SiriusXM channel list was updating. When I came back out about 10 minutes later, it was being possessed again. I stupidly turned the car off instead of driving it directly to the shop. I’m wondering if the SiriusXM update caused the programming to be “kicked”. 5rebel9 Posted December 7, 2021 Report Share Posted December 7, 2021 From my personal experience with our '11 DJ. I found that a LOT of functions run thru the radio/CD player module. I wonder if yours may have been "zapped" from the previous happening. My problem of dash not shutting down happened ONCE and then not again for a couple months, and then it did it all the time. May not be your exact circumstance, but the siriusXM "updating" as problem happened made me want to offer this tidbit. Module should still be a plug and play change, but if you subscribe to XM(we don't) you may need to give them a call about the module being replaced to recognize the new(or used) module. Still waiting to hear from my mechanic. I did a little internet “research” and am terrified of the prices I see for a replacement. Anywhere from $350 to $900. And that’s just the part. We’re (my mechanic and myself) 99.99% sure the problem is in the ABS. The issue with that is, last I checked, they we’re on back order until at least April. I can’t say it was “resolved” exactly because I live in fear of it going out again. Christine Posted July 1 Report Share Posted July 1 Canada day weekend, got in my 2013 dodge journey to pick up chinese food, pushed on brake pedal, went down all the way, pushed start button....and nothing, tried again, brake pedal not going down, all dash lights on, steering wheel unlocked, and message "vehicle not in park". Tried to play with shifter, it is in park mode. Tried to start again, and wipers, dash lights, came on, and heard knocking noise that went on for a few seconds. Used a neighbour's battery charger and had it fully charged, but same thing happened. Battery is the original when i bought it used 5 years ago, and have only had to jumpstart once this past winter when it was extremely cold outside. I know they should be replaced after a time, but I have limited funds, and live by the motto, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Tried it again hours later (hoping for a miracle), car was locked, had to use my key to get in, and it did all the same things, except this time message said "no bus". Everything I'm researching says there is a communication problem somewhere in the system. Also checked fuses under the hood, (30 amp, square pink one) didn't look burnt out. My biggest fear is the garage will run extensive unnecessary diagnostics, $$$$. Could be loose or damaged wiring, could be the old battery. I'm hoping it's one of those, but fearing it isn't!! If I had some idea of what they need to focus on, given the issues I'm having, I would be prepared, and not "taken to the cleaners". Some mechanics will run up the bill for a women because they think we don't know anything......this has happened to me before, so my trust level is low. Now I do my research, and arm myself with as much knowledge as possible before going in, but still feel stupid! Given the symptoms I described, what do you think might be the problem? Something else, twice over the past year, my clock, and equalizer sound setting went back to factory setting, no idea why? Hope you can give me some insight, thank you. Posting to a full year old last posting thread, should have made your own thread. Be it as it may, you said the battery is at least 5 years old. The cable connectors and battery posts probably have not been cleaned since it was installed....MISTAKE #1. Yes the battery is in a wicked hard spot to get at, WE DJ owners KNOW THAT. IF you can get it running, go to an auto parts store{even Walmart} and have the battery load tested to see how good or bad it is. A good battery and clean cable connections are CRITICAL with these cars. A dead battery will erase any codes that the computer in the car sees so yes waiting this long for action {preventive maint.} becomes problematic. Locosiete Posted July 1 Report Share Posted July 1 I would definitely start with battery connections and then the battery. A bad ground connection will create allot of gremlins. And with the push ignition it will seem like it has power but it really doesn't enough. If you have a multi meter see how many volts it has. John/Horace Posted July 2 Report Share Posted July 2 Try putting on parking brake and put car in neutral position. Then try starting. If it still doesn’t start, try using jumper cables to start it. Weak battery can do weird things with push button start. Park neutral switch inside transmission if faulty can prevent starting, but neutral will allow starting.
