Brendon
I have a 2010 journey. It has a few issues I’m not really sure what they are. First is when I start my car and put in reverse it stalls. But only when it’s cold if the Engine is up to temp it does not. My second issue is sometimes when I’m driving it’s stays in 2 gear. It think it’s second. It only goes 40. To get it to stop I have to put in park and turn off. I was just wondering if anyone has an idea what the issue would be. Thank you,
John/Horace
Always start with scanning for codes; guessing gets expensive quick. How many miles and which engine ? Welcome to the site.
Brendon
There is no check engine light. It has 161000 and 3.5 v6
2late4u
sounds like a trip to a transmission shop is in your future
John/Horace
Even without a light I would still check for codes. Stalling when cold could be a dirty mass air flow sensor; use the proper rated aerosol cleaner. Even worn plugs can do that, how many miles on plugs ? Limp mode can be lots of things, start with new oil and filter if it hasn’t been done. Usually limp mode will leave a trail of codes, but tranny codes often won’t show up with a cheap obd11 reader. Brendon
I’m not sure how many on plugs. I just bought the car about a month ago. But as soon as I got it I changed oil and filter. I also charged the air intake filter. I see if I can scan it.
larryl
Has the timing belt ever been replaced? If not it's way past due Also the transmission might need a fluid and filter change it's an old vehicle Edited March 23, 2022 by larryl John/Horace
John/Horace
I meant transmission oil and filter. Limp mode is probably tranny acting up. Codes might indicate direction to go in.
