DJ the DJ
I found no info in search because I do not have a "valid" VIN! Hello all I have a specific rare issues as to why I cant update my factory nav After my 2014 Journey GPS had failed the dealership agreed to buy me a whole new factory dodge GPS! Sounds amazing right?! Well now I have this unit which needs some software updates as I am sure they did not update it while its been sitting in a warehouse since......?? I know what your going to say! Go to the website and download the new software! Problem is the website will not release any software unless you enter your VIN so when I enter my 2014 VIN it does not have anything available for this different unit! I know what your going to ask, What version number do you have etc etc? Model: CTP17 Software version: 7.09 Dealer locator: 2.0 Audio: 2.20 Voice Command: 2.10 Text: 7.09 GPS: 4.15.06 Please help me get out of this perpetual loop I am more concerned over the software itself than just the "map" upgrade but both would be nice Thanks in advance! larryl
Why is the dealership not helping you out?
John/Horace
What’s the back story. They handed you a box to get rid of you. Assuming you would come back later to pay for updates and install. Odd. larryl
DJ the DJ
To respond to both comments: It was actually a reputable dealership of another car brand who did the install. They reached out to Dodge on my behalf to no avail. The Dodge dealership also told me "thats a Uconnect thing" and basically said if I don't spend thousands I am on my own. Somehow I suspect even if I DID spend thousands at Dodge there would be no way to issue me a VIN so that is why Uconnect has a broken system. My dealer spent thousands on a product from Dodge that cannot be updated.
bramfrank
What makes you think you need updates? CTP17 works fine. As long as your unit isn't suffering the 'can't unlock maps' issue you are good to go except that the system will periodically tell you that the maps are out of date, in which case you can live with it, or you can either buy an update or hack one. DJ the DJ
Cannot buy a map update without a VIN. The update is not for sale anywhere like ebay etc I can find. Also... its not the CTP version that concerns me it is the software version itself. Its a bit buggy and after my dealer spending thousands I believe I am entitled to the update. The VIN requirement fails to take into account ppl who buy the units from Dodge and its really unfair!!!
bramfrank
Your VIN doesn't work because your vehicle didn't come with the nav. Google for a 2013 or later Journey that has navigation for sale on the web and use the VIN from that. But you don't need to PAY for a map update. The instructions on how to do it yourself can be found in this forum. . . . . . Edited January 1, 2023 by bramfrank
Dodgems
I was able to use the 10 digit code found in the about screen. Our Journey did not come with the rb5. I used the garmin express software and followed their upgrade steps. I was able to upgrade from ctp16 to ctp17.
