Used cars are still pricy because of short supply. If your van  buddy can do the safety seems like all the bases covered. Nothing wrong with making a few bucks.

Well..... I got a replacement filler neck and installed it yesterday. Drove it 45 miles to my guy's shop and put it on his hoist. going  to need quite a "laundry list" of maint. repairs. brakes camber arms and POSSIBLE toe arms, but also going to need a new radiator and water pump.  

    My sister was offered $375 for it to go to the crusher, tomorrow I will offer them $400 for it and give a parts price breakdown as to why only that amount. Then  sit on the car till spring or my guy decides he has immediate use for it, things are a bit tight for myself and him right now, but probably the same for many folks in the world right now......

 

Yes it runs very well engine /trans, but I definitely see how much difference in performance to the 3.6.

This DJ is an sxt with BT and phone, but not working, and I don't care about that right now, but it does have remote start! AND great cabin heat on both sides!

I have been looking after daughter in laws 2012 Journey 2.4 for about 6 yrs now.  She bought it new using uncles FCA employee discount. I have driven it for a half hour a few times, yeah sluggish and fuel economy only a little better than 3.6. But good reliable transportation.  And easier to work on than 3.6 by far.

 

Use copper spark plugs if you want ; but platinum seems to work fine with no side affects.  And copper no longer available cheap.

 

CPS sensor, electronic throttle body and cooling system (both thermostats and plastic heating  manifold with gaskets) were all done, common not expensive fixes. Recalls put a new cat and rack pressure line on. Hers has just over 100k miles, tranny and engine and a/c all work fine. 

With crazy new car prices, lower cost functional used cars are still going to be in short supply. Affecting price imo.

Is this the filler neck part you mentioned. Hasn’t been changed on ours yet, I should grab one maybe.  The 2013 is the older HOAT coolant so do a full flush when possible.

I got the Dorman 902-305 that they say not a fit, but works fine. Unlike the multi ribs on hose connectors tour pic. shows, it has singular barb on the ends and comes with squeeze clamps.

 I'm quite aware of the "quirks" of the 2.4 and yes I agree with your impressions of the car overall.

Just got off the phone with my sister and Bro. in law, they gladly will take the $400. 

They also did not want to see it just be crushed, but that's about all they do around here now.

SO, I sit on the car over the winter and start repairs in the spring with it.

It looks like my DJ stable will be SHRINKING DOWN this early summer. I have a buyer for the 4 cyl. project car and I will be trading my '14 to help get a 2014 Grand Caravan {3.6} wheelchair van to be able to take my father out of the nursing home for Dr. appointments and short afternoon "day trips" along with my mother as their chaufer . Both are going crazy being stuck inside the facility and need time "out and about" to relieve "stresses".

Wheelchair vans do not come cheap, but I can get this one through my friend for $10k. and well worth that price. Of course sales tax and registering/insurance is on top of that figure to deal with. 

I will be the registered owner, even though funds of my parents will be used in this purchase, long story, but I have siblings that can't keep up proper maint. or knowledge of WHEN to get a car in for repairs. SO my vehicle, my say how and who might also use it for transporting my father BESIDES ME. and when they "pass", I will have SOMETHING to remember them by.

I will keep you all "posted" about the van, and will still have the wifes '13rt Journey. My son says he's going to try for 2 more years with his '11 Journey.

Lots of conversion companies. My sons in laws have had two Braun Abilities wheel chair conversions. Their Grand Caravan Dodge is still on the road now. Large company I think Indiana head office, but branches every where.  Only one I have looked at closely, nice workman ship. People don’t generally beat on this type of vehicle and high cost encourages proper maint. So sounds like a great deal. You certainly know the mechanical systems well…and you are doing a nice thing for family.

This one is done by ElDorado National out in Kansas and is from Annapolis, Maryland. It is a basic van with rear heat/A/c for features beyond total basic Grand Caravan. Raised body with lowered floor, manual side load ramp that is very low angle incline and very light to lower/raise. Only thing to detract is that it is WHITE in color, I'm not a fan of white! BUT just as with my Lucerne, due to great purchase price, i'm not complaining. My friend gave me first "dibs" and price, I knew and he also said he could easily sell it for $15 - $16K.
