Can you add EVIC? And some other questions

Recommended Posts

We just got a used 2009 Journey SXT. I was going through the manual and was wondering a few things

Can you add the EVIC after market? Looks like some buttons would have to be added to the steering wheel? Sounds expensive if its possible.

Is the uConnect worth $250, or is there a better source to get it cheaper? Just brief searching online I found it for around $250 I think.

Extra FOB - do you really have to get a brand new one, never used? Or is there a way to program a used one? Any sources for good priced new FOB's?

It is possible - if you have thousands of spare $$$. There is more to it than a few extra buttons.

uConnect is part of the radio system and is integrated through a separate module. There are lots of options out there but I fear they may not be as good as factory installed uConnect. It is a worthwhile accessory seeing how many jurisdictions require this 'hands free' technology.

I understand all FOBs for the Journey are capable of being programmed to the vehicle. So a used one, if functioning properly will be programable.

I suppose the EVIC has all sorts of sensors and such throughout the vehicle also. I am surprised this is not a standard option on the Dodge, especially the SXT model. My previous car was a very stripped down 2004 Chevy Malibu with no extra features, it had nearly the functions of the EVIC built into the radio. Its surprising to see what what manufacturer thinks is a critical feature, others toss to the side. Overall I have much more upgrade features as "standard" on the new Journey, so I am not complaining, just observing.

I have the uConnect buttons built into the radio, but not the module. The dealer that sold it to me said I would just need to buy the module, so in the end it should be the same as factory installed. Supposedly you just plug it in someplace and it works.

About the FOB, I asked because the owners manual says you must have a new one, and once programmed for a vehicle it can never be re-programmed to another. I wonder if anyone on here has ever actually reprogrammed a used one?

I did have one other question about roof rails. This is one thing I wanted when getting my next vehicle but when buying used you don't always get everything you want. It seems I can get factory rails installed, as other SXT owners have reported getting them on new vehicles. I am pretty handy, and was wondering if this is something I should let the dealer do, or try myself. From looking at pictures it looks like you might have to drill into the roof to mount them, and probably take the interior ceiling down? Does anyone have experience getting rails added to their Journey? Aftermarket or OEM? Best Prices? I am not going to be putting anything terribly heavy up there, just a roof top cargo bag I already own. It can hook onto the windows like I did the withe Malibu but I would rather use roof rails.
