Separate. All you get is the wire harness and oil cooler. Lots of threads here on the hitches / receivers available. Ensure you read them before settling on any one style. This is due largely to your towing needs.

Where do i find the wire harnes at? Thank you in advance.

If you bought the Trailer Tow Prep package, then you should find the harness in a bag in the rear under the floor lid. It is not installed as part of the package for some reason. If it is not found then I suggest returning to the dealer and getting one form them. Make sure you get the harness kit that hard wires into the control module in the engine compartment and not one that splices into the rear lights.

Bugs, Thanks for this information.

Is the harness that comes with the Trailer Prep Option the one that you state that ties into the control module?

I may NEVER tow, but for some reason I want this set up so that if I need too I can.

Thanks,

Chris

The harness for the tlr prep is the hard wired to PCM model. There is a bag full of wire there.

In days gone by one could go to the local hardware store (and you still can) and purchase for a couple of $$ a pigtail that you spliced into the tail light wiring. The power draw for lighting in todays vehicles is strictly controlled by the PCM. If too much draw is detected on a circuit it will shut down to protect others. The wiring harness for the Journey was quite impressive in my opinion. It included a complete harness from the plug to the PCM, with fused links etc prewired. It takes some doing to install but if one is able and has some working knowledge of vehicles it can be done by following the included instructions. It does call for the drilling of one hole in the well above the spare tire so make sure it is placed exactly as described or you may run into resistance. I had the PCM end soldered into the module as described, all wires tied into place to eliminate movement and unnecessary stress. The trailer connection end may require you purchase an adaptor to connect to a four wire harness as the original is set up for 7. These are easily found at uHaul and places like it. Make sure you map the wire from the well to the hitch in a fashion that leaves enough remaining to actually reach it to plug in the trailer. It is about 4 inches too short in my opinion, however it does the job fine. I have not had any issues with the harness whatsoever and having a larger unit to tow I am glad I went this route. The harness also powers the battery charger in the trailer as well as the electric brakes along with all required lights.

Thanks Bugs! Sounds like it is something I will be installing when ours gets in. I want it ready to go,

just in case. I am pretty good with electrical wiring and installs, and I know my way around a soldering

iron better than most so it should be a breeze.

Thank you

I modified my hitch harness today. No pics but I will describe. It is a factory issue harness and quite elaborate as previously described elsewhere on this forum. The issue was that I did not have enough harness from the jack well to the connector to allow a mount on the hitch bar with the mounting bracket I got from UHaul. So i mounted it directly to the bumper frame and cut out the plastic bumper cover to expose it. It is just left of the draw bar in the center of the lower fascia portion of the bumper stopping at the crease. The hole was cut easily with a Dremel tool and cut off disc. The edges of the cutout are trimmed with door edge trim to finish it. Looks like it belongs there now. The outlet has 7 pin and a 4 pin connections side by each.
