jst216
Well, took car to stealership for brake noise at left front and paint peeling on left outside mirror. Here is the verdict: front brakes shot, rotors and pads and they are graciously going to re-paint the mirror for me. They want $330 for pads and rotors, but wait, they are lifetime pads.......!@#$. I told the so called service writer not to touch my car with anything MOPAR if I am paying for it.......I will do the brake job myself if my battle with Dodge does not pan out. The sad part about all this, this is my 3rd Chrysler product an two with the same brake issue, the other was a 2000 Jeep Gr. Cherokee, Chrysler replaced the pads and rotors on that slug six times about every 5k - 6k miles until they decided no more....that's when I took it to the Hummer dealer and got a H3. I decided to go back to Dodge and here I am. 2009 Journey
warbird24
Jeff, I was wondering if you have a 2009 or a 2010 model?

warbird24
Thank for the reply and adding the 2009 to your signature block. The reason I ask is I am trying to figure out what is going on with these 2009's. It does seem like it's mostly an 09 issue and something must have changed in the 10's. It's got me slightly worried and I don't even have our Journey yet.
DJMTMM
My 2009 Journey, 22,000 miles is in the shop right now for new rotors all the way around and new pads. This is absolutely ridiculous. My mechanic said he gets this type of earlier brake wear from Dodge Chargers that his police department brings in....NOT a suburban driven vehicle. Swerv
After much discussion with various mechanics and Chrysler reps it seems that Chrysler has always had a weird problem with their factory breaks and this goes for a few of their vehicles. I just spoke with a very good break specialist and he advised on a certain brand that he uses when he replaces Chrysler's pads and rotors. I forgot the name but he is going to install them on my Journey. Ill let you know how it goes
jst216
Well, picked up my car today from the stealership and all covered by warranty. They said the rotors have no more life in them, and only after one time of resurfacing, gotta love Dodge brakes. Well I can look on the bright side.....I will get to go another 18,000 miles or so before I get to do it again.....yippee. Word of advice for you 2009 Journey owners......call the corporate office in Michigan and raise holy h*** with them.
warbird24
Jeff, If the rotors needed turning, they have LESS material to disipate heat and as such may warp quicker and not last as long as you think. I would watch them and if there is any pulsing feel to the brakes, take them back ASAP. I always try and insist on new rotors with a change of pads. Only if the rotors are perfect and you change the pads BEFORE there is an damage to the rotors can you get away with not changing or milling the rotors.
