Transmech
I have owned my 2010 dodge journey for about 2 months and now I have to take it back to the dealer to get the cruise control fixed again. The first time they said it was the stalk. What happens is when I push the on/off button the cruise light does not come on and somtimes it does be it after shutting the car down and restarting it. And I mean shutting it down by opening the driver's door. Or somtimes it will just start to work again on it's own. Another weird thing I noticed is that the last time I had to reboot the car for this my outside temp reading red 69 degrees when it was well over 90 f. when it rebooted it read correctly and the cruise started to work again. Does any one Have any Ideas on what I should have the dealer look at to fix this car. I Loved it when we got it but I don't like the fact that it is having these weird electrical problems. I have worked on lots of dodges in the past and I know that when stuff like this started on them they had a short lifespan. Thanks in advance. Lbaran
We have a 2011 with about 30K on it. The cruise started to act up anfd would take 5 or 6 tries to engage. My wife took it to the delaer and they ordered a replacement part. It worked for about 3 days, when she was on a long trip down to Montana (we live in Alberta), and the cruise started acting up again. She is taking it in again, but has anyone else had this problem? Lebowski
I find it picky, i.e. sometimes it doesn't respond do the buttons even if I do notice the click. Also I think there is a problem with the sensor in the clutch (I have manual transmission): once there was no way to engage it until I switched gears, next time it happened I raised a little bit the clutch pedal and it worked. The dealer could find no problem with it. BTW, it doesn't work as it should: the manual says that it works from 40km/h, and you can reset it starting from 32km/h (it should then reach the speed set before cancelling), but mine does both things starting at 42km/h. redtomatoman
I have a 2011 JC. I had a similar problem. Cruise worked intermittently for a while, the stopped altogether. When I took it to the dealer, they told me that they found code P0579-00 which indicates the cruise control switch. They replaced that and same symptoms returned 2 days later. It turned out that the SCCM (steering column control module) associated with the clock spring was malfunctioning and nothing was wrong with the cruise control itself. After they installed the new SCCM, no problems. Hopefully this is helpful to you. Good Luck. Peace.
Mave
My 2011 journey has been back in the garage three times....two separate garages......over the past year for the same problem. It is very frustrating when traveling long distances to have the cruise control stop working. Having to wait for a turnout or rest area so I can stop the vehicle, turn the wheel hard right or hard left to re-engage the cruise becomes annoying. The vehicle itself is everything I need, lots of room for passengers and luggage, the cruise control issue is a huge hindrance.
bramfrank
Mave - that sounds like a clockspring issue . . . .
Mave
Bramfrank......thanks for the reply. I think that is what was replaced on two occasions......it seems more complex to me though., I wouldn't have thought that by turning the wheel, hard over it would fix it. (Although it is usually only a short fix). I feel it is probably an electrical problem, I am not a mechanic of course, but I don't see how a spring could re-attach itself and then connect again. Whatever the problem is, this seems to be a problem with a lot of Journeys and one would hope the company itself would look for a 'once and for all' fix and recall faulty vehicles. I do have extended warranty so it is not costing me cash-wise but my time is also very valuable to me and the warranty does run out next year. It would be nice to have a fully operational vehicle before then.
bigtsr
"Clockspring " is not a spring but an electrical connection from the rotating steering wheel to the main electrical bus. This is a problem which has not been posted often on this forum , at least as you describe it's intermittent nature. You have a warranty use it. Could also be the speed sensor.
