Dean H
Second owner, 2016 DJ 126k miles. 3.6 engine, 62te automatic transmission. 1)The battery is located down in front of the drivers side tire. 2) The biggest issue here, is that the battery cable terminal connections have no covers on them. 3) The next issue is, that rain water from the fender and hood drains on to the battery. I do have a fix for this problem. I will do a separate post on that. The fix is to grease the entire positive terminal connection with dielectric grease. To seal out moisture. Then cover it. Use plenty of grease, it's cheap protection for your battery. To prevent arcing and shorting out. From water dripping on it. Go to Amazon buy this cover. You will use the red one on the positive terminal. This one is a perfect fit for the positive cable. https://a.co/d/5EsIjBj The negative battery terminal. Has the IBS battery sensor on it. Clean and grease connections. I found this cover from Amazon. It works great. You have to trim it some to fit. Then use zip ties to secure it. Paint black for correct negative connection identification. https://a.co/d/hr9tqzU I do have pictures. But, I am unable to access them on my phone. Dean H
Water drainage fix With the hood up. Look along the top inside of the fender. There is a drain channel that runs down to the headlight. Picture #1. The drain channel isn't long enough. Water drains onto the headlight and flows to the back of the headlight assembly. Then down onto the battery located down below it. Picture #2. You can see for yourself, by pouring a little water on the channel. Watch where it goes. What is needed, is to extend the drain. So the rain water is channeled over the front of the headlight assembly. I used a cheap 2 piece curtain rod. https://www.walmart.com/ip/50015121 Pull it apart. The piece that slides inside the other one. It is the shallow depth one. This is important. Cut it 8 inches long. See picture. Basically, I used pliers and snips to trim and bend it. Picture #3. The flat end fits flush underneath the fender drain channel. I used plenty of E6000 adhesive on this flat piece. Pictures #4, 5 Get it flat enough stick to the fender. Wedge something under it overnight, to hold it in place. While the adhesive cures. You just have shape it to fit. It easily fits under the corner of the fender between the headlight. Safely under the hood line. You might want to bend up the metal around the rusty bolt. To direct the water to the new drain. Do the battery terminal cover fix and this drain modification. You should be good to go.
MartyZ1
My fix for the phantom draw is a 6a/1a charger maintainer mounted on top of the motor by the jump points. Hooked into the block heater cord and the two chargeing clamps onto the jump points. Starts consistantly now. larryl
