tyeayo
So I have 3 camshafts in "time", with my marks lining back up at the 12 o'clock marks I marked with my paint pen when the engine was at TDC but I have 1 cam that's not at 12 it's more at the 9 o'clock position So... Front set of cams are in time and at the 12 oclock position, the rear set has the intake cam in time at 12 but the exhast cam is at 9 Question: Can I remove the chain from the cam out of "time" keep the cam bolted in place and manually rotate the cam itself to where the paint marks I made are back lined up with the other cams? (I have the tooth on the cam marked and the chain link marked) than reconnect the chain and will it than be back in time?
14WhiteRTRallye
It's so easy to at least loosen the cam bolts, why take a chance.
John/Horace
Lots of mechanics because of all the timing belt engines still paint mark their chains. If the paint marks line up again you should be fine. Always do another 720 degrees or two rotations again after you make marks line up. To make sure nothing has shifted, even after an adjustment. One tooth can be over 8 degrees and car won’t run right. Edited June 21 by John/Horace
