I've installed an Android 9 (not 12, it's always 9) radio in my 2019 DJ GT, and here's my review.

Installation

The installation was straightforward, you just remove a little trim and unscrew the climate panel:

Then you unscrew and pull out the UConnect:

Then you pull out the CD/DVD player (yes, it won't be installed back because it's a part of the old radio) and unplug the wires:

Now just plug everything into the new radio, if there's a cable that doesn't have a connection, it means it's not important.

There will be a Micro USB cable in the set, plug it into the GRAY USB from the CD player, this will enable the original USB port to work with the new radio.

After you put it back together it should look like this:

Troubleshooting

If the climate controls don't work, follow these steps:

  • Open the settings app
  • Click on Car Settings
  • Click on Factory or Advanced
  • Input code: 000000
  • Click on car type setting
  • Select a canbus (for me it was this one, yours may be different):

If the radio doesn't work, follow these steps:

  • Open the settings app
  • Click on Car Settings
  • Click on Factory or Advanced
  • Input code: 000000
  • Find and enable Radio ANT (?)
  • It should work

Other steps:

  • If the climate panel doesn't show up even if it works in CarInfo app, toggle the Auto button on/off couple of times.
  • If there's no sound or Bluetooth doesn't connect, restart the radio.

My experience

Spoiler

The radio works fine, it's so much better than the crappy 8.4 UConnect! You can listen to .flac files, even load them on the radio, so no USB needed. Google maps work fine, you can download offline maps in the settings and it works. CarPlay works, but when I tested it, there was no sound on calls, i don't know why. Android Auto works super well. You can download apps, like any other Android device. Only one problem. The original camera image is flipped left-right, but the dynamic guidelines are not, so that's an issue. If I repair it, I will let you kow.

I would 100% recommend it.
