18 2.4 no start after engine swap

Recommended Posts

So I just purchased a scrap yard low mileage engine. Previous to replacing the bad engine due to being driven with no oil in it, the car ran and drove into the garage.  The engine is also from another 2018 Journey so I would think that its a direct swap and plug and play.  Well now all I'm coming up with is a crank no start. I did confirm that I have fuel and spark so I'm baffled.  if there any kind of security that's not allowing the engine to run?

Is the fuel pressure OK? Are the injectors working? You can check the injectors voltage to see if they are receiving power with a test light, when cranking the test ligth shoul be flashing (connected it to the 2 injector terminals) I use a LED test light.

Codes showing up ? Will be some nonsense stuff turning up from the dead engine. Maybe clear after first scan and see what reappears afterwards. Cold compression test numbers? (Table spoon of oil per cylinder if motor sitting a long time.)

I wonder about timing, hard to check not running, would have to look sprocket markings.

Fuel injectors are working for sure as well as the fuel pump

No codes showing up other than a generator code that's been stored. I cranked it over for a good amount of time yesterday to where it's almost toasting the starter. I'll pull the valve cover tonight to see about the timing marks. I have a compression tester as well that I'll grab and check.

Don’t forget spark. Could pull a coil and hook to a spark plug …look for blue spark. Or confirm coils are getting 12 volts.

Never crank for more than 30-40 secs without waiting 5 mins for cool down of starter.
