2017 Journey dead/won't restart

Hello all. I've searched for an answer to my issues but my 2017 V6 Journey won't restart. Was waiting for the bus for my child and turned it off. Wouldn't restart. Could only get the display to turn on once or twice. When it did come on it wouldn't do anything? Looking for ideas.

99 % its your battery which is located inside the left side wheel well and yes we know its a bad/stupid place for it but it is what it is...good luck you should be able to have someone jump start it using the alt jump post located on the drivers side engine compartment under the red flasp

Thanks for the reply sir. I believe you're right. It's my wifes car and I was at work yesterday on a double. I hooked up my jump pack when I got off and it started and ran for a minute then died again. I left it in the driveway. I'll hook my car up and jump it when I get off today and let it "charge" enough to get it back to the barn to replace the battery.

it would be a great idea after replacing the battery to have the alt checked at the local part store, as well just to be safe its still charging

If it wad running and died, it would be the alternator, not the battery 

 

The battery serves one purpose and one purpose only : to provide power (to start the engine) when the alternator does not put out any 

 

If the alternator goes out the car will run off the battery untill it drains, at which point the car will stall and not restart  

 

If the battery is bad, you can Jumpstart the car and it will run fine off the alternator, untill you shut it off and it will not restart

I agree with both of you on the alternator and that was my plan to begin with. It's the original battery so it's probably close to 8 years old. Might as well replace it as well. It's been a great car thus far. Only other "major" repair has been a pinion seal replacement for $400. Which is a steam imo.

I just replaced my battery a few weeks ago,no lights ,no warning lights just 4 yrs old,,I have never got more than 4 yrs out of my batteries in my journey and i always buy supposedly the batteries with the longest warranty last one was an interstate..oh well  might be all the heat we get here in Alabama

It's my wifes car. I asked her if she had any lights pop up she said no. Replaced the battery tonight, changed the oil/filter and air filter on her car. All seems well reading 14.2-.3 volts with my meter. I'll drive it down to the parts house Monday and have the system checked with their tester. I work another double tomorrow.

Yes they are. I had a 2004 Dodge 2500 diesel the batteries lasted 10 years from the factory. It's been a great car for us. We bought it new and it has 125k on the clock. Just this year the center console and door arm rests started cracking, and the DS window started not working all the time. But it has served us well.

New batteries often don’t come with a full charge. Can be helpful to put it on a charger until it shows a full charge. 
 

Usually a square battery symbol comes up on dash when voltage gets low. There is a whole sequence of preserving car functionality as long as possible with battery dieing. Cooling fans being one of the top priorities. Car will disable sound system and power seats and various other non critical items to help limp vehicle back home.  Stuff like ecm don’t run at 12 volts anyway, so lower voltage doesn’t get to them. 


Eventually car will be shut down from low voltage. Either battery not able to support car operation, or alternator not able to charge battery enough to keep a functional level. Goal being car not stuck on road, you should get strong hints to pull over. At least that’s how wife’s alternator failure played out with me trying to limp car home. Unsuccessfully, she used her caa for a small covered tow.
