danyboy
Anyone ever change the starter on this model by himself ? Is it possible to do it from up above or absolutely have to do it from underneath and remove cross bar and what not?
John/Horace
It's very similar to a starter on most V6 engines if you have changed one. Awkward for sure but there are worse repairs. I haven't done one yet, but several people have said from below with motor mount removed it's doable with patience. Close attention to how it comes out, then copy for install. Jack stand for support with no mount. I think Dean H on this site may have changed one. Or have decent input. Dean H
Hi guys, I only did a starter cable upgrade. I only removed the starter cable nut. That alone was a pain and time consuming. Edited Sunday at 10:59 PM by Dean H John/Horace
John/Horace
I hope you are trouble shooting things. Journey starters rarely go. Make sure you check fuse in passenger kick panel for pushbutton start before attempting a large expensive repair. It's a small plastic micro fuse, 10 amp I think. Car won't engage or try to start if blown. Mine blew once several years ago, fine since.
Dean H Posted yesterday at 11:50 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 11:50 AM 2016 DJ Service CD. Read my post after this one.
Dean H Posted yesterday at 11:56 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 11:56 AM To replace the starter on a 3.6L. Everything you remove comes out from the top. The only thing you disconnect under the car is the catalytic converter flange bolts. Remove the front catalytic converter. Remove the motor mount bracket bolted the the engine. Located in front of the starter. The 2016 DJ service CD. Doesn't mention you have to support the engine before removing the motor mount bracket. You might have to remove the air filter box and air intake that goes up over the radiator. In this picture, I marked the starter cable, catalytic converter and the motor mount bracket.
