zmttoxics
The GCWR for the 3.6 with out the prep group is 7,300lbs and 8,300lbs with the prep group. The trailer weight with 2 people in the car is 2,000lbs with out the prep group and 3,500lbs with the prep group. Hope that helps!
Cableguy
Wondering if the tow weight limit was increased with the increased HP of the Pentastar 6 cyl. Anyone? Currently at 3500 lbs. Hoping for 4500 lb or even 5K lbs Considering the size and weight of the journey I would be scared to tow more than 3500lbs.
mschmidt33`
Looks like towing capacity with the prep is only 2500lbs on the 2011 with the Pentastar. Please confirm where you saw 3500lbs
Doug D
Wondering if the tow weight limit was increased with the increased HP of the Pentastar 6 cyl. Anyone? Currently at 3500 lbs. Hoping for 4500 lb or even 5K lbs If you need to tow that much (5,000 lbs), you really need a Ram or a Dakota at a minimum. Just my opinion. Personally, I wouldn't tow more than 2,000 lbs with a Journey. Haven't added a hitch to ours yet, but if we do it will only be for a small trailer or bike rack. If I need to tow or haul a major load, I have my Ram.

Mschmidt33, I agree with Derekmclain the manual is probably more accurate (but that is me also ) Wouldn't be the fist time a website was wrong :P . NiceTrip
I surmise that both are correct. If you assume the web site gives worst case (i.e. full passenger/cargo load), then there is no discrepency. The website numbers correspond exactly with the numbers in the manual for a load of 5 to 7 passengers.
JThomasGaffney
I would think it has more to do with the transmission. These are not heavy duty transmissions they put in cars and crossovers like the Journey. The bigger SUVs and pickups have a heavier duty transmission (Chrysler 545RFE five-speed transmission) for the increased weight and load. Notice the Durango (6,200 lbs) and Grand Cherokee (5,000 lbs) both sport the 3.6 Penastar, yet they have a higher rated towing capacity due to their transmission. So the increased horsepower wouldn't affect the ability of the transmission to haul a heavier load. The transmission is the key component in towing capacity. Hauling anything over 2000 lbs in the Journey requires a transmission cooler. You really shouldn't haul anything near the rated capacity of 3500 lbs. It is interesting to note that the Durango and Grand Cherokee have Trailer Sway Control (TSC) which senses trailer sway and takes action by automatically applying the right amount of braking to maintain control. They also have a TOW / HAUL button for improved towing performance during trailer towing, heavy-load hauling or driving in mountainous areas. The TOW / HAUL mode inhibits fifth gear and allows upshifts to fourth during higher speed / lighter load conditions. These features are nice to have on vehicles specifically designed for towing. The Journey shouldn't be used for anything other than light duty hauling. Wondering if the tow weight limit was increased with the increased HP of the Pentastar 6 cyl. Anyone? Currently at 3500 lbs. Hoping for 4500 lb or even 5K lbs
