Imrahil
Hi. I'm looking at a 2010 Dodge Journey 2.0 CRD. I wanted to schedule an inspection with my mechanic, but he scared me before even taking a look under the hood. He suggested that this engine might not be the best idea, claiming it has a tendency to seize up for no apparent reason. Apparently, the first Journeys had a subpar 2.0 CRD engine prone to this issue. The mechanic also claims that in later versions of the vehicle, an improved engine was used. What's the real story? Were there actually two versions of this engine? And if so, how can I check which one is in this particular car?
5rebel9
We Journey owners in the North American market did not get the 2.0 Diesel option, so many of us have very little knowledge of them. BUT yes the earlier diesels were from the VW /Audi and timing belt driven. They had a habit of breaking if not replaced by scheduled maint. and would destroy the motor. Good luck to you. Imrahil
What do you think about the gasoline engines in this car? My choices are the 2.4 R4, the 2.7 V6, the 3.5 V6, and the Pentastar. I’m not particularly focused on performance. I’m more interested in reliability and relatively low maintenance costs.

Yes, over here those motors were available in our DJ's or in "cousin" vehicles. Each size motor had their own "quirks" /strengths/weaknesses. For what you say you are looking for, I would suggest the 2.4.
