Not your ordinary heat problem

Have a 2017 Journey STX with a 4 cylinder. The heat blows cool and the passenger side and hot on the driver's side. I replaced the door inculcator for the recirculate which was clicking loud and the one for the heat on the passenger side. Still acting the same way. My next step was changing the two thermostats. Approximately a 40-degree temp difference until the engine coolant temp reaches about 150 degrees, then it will be warm on the passenger side and plenty hot on the driver's side. Any ideas?

40*f  ???? you have a HEAT WAVE  !!!!  My area as of right now is 4*f

HOT {good} heat drivers side} and COLD {poor} heat passenger side is classic HEATER CORE internal sludge build up. Due to the way the heater core is positioned, the best way is to replace it. Unfortunately a rather expensive job if done by the "book". Being "down South" you MAY get lucky and restore heat with a good flush of the heater core. Many You Tube videos can be found for "how to's" including cutting the supply/return lines under the dash and splicing the new core with 5/8: ID hose IF you are a DIY type.

Good Luck!

I believe they were referring the 40 degree temp difference to the engine warming up from cold to hot,,,,not their temperature outside,,but yes heater core time either flush or replace,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,anyways replacing the thermostat will be a waste of time as drivers  side is getting hot heat,so not a thermostat problem

It's SOOO COLD here that I had "brain freeze" from being out getting my battery charger hooked up to my "project" DJ when I read the posting here.....LOL after 15 minutes charging, it fired up. it has spent 5 hours on 2 amp trickle charge.

But to the posting heere , yes that kind of temp difference between sides is a plugging up heater core.

Same issue, 2017 Crossroad Plus, 3.6, AWD. Wondering if it’s time to go. Just began daily routine of hot on driver side, cold on passenger side. 90k miles. Unconfirmed estimates of $1,600.00 to replace heater core. Then belts and hoses. Hate to leave the car but it’s now getting to eat expensive parts & labor.  Has anyone ever successfully flushed the core?

first you need to verified that the passenger side  blend door is actually working east to do with a flashlight and have someone work the controls or do it yourself there are many videos on how to do this procedure on your ube and also in the forum we have here, same for the shortcut heater core replacement visio or you can try the flush which most of the times it doesn't work but that up to you, good luck

I added Blue Devil radiator cleaner to the radiator. I had no place to dump the old anti-freeze so I just put it in. I switched the heater hoses around for a week and back again. It is working better now. both sides are within 10*of each other. I also thought about getting a 3 ft piece of 5/8 heater hose. there is an adapter to slide onto garden hoses when they are broke. Add that to the 3 ft hose and then to a garden hose. and try to flush it out that way. Been a struggle.

IF you want to keep the ride, take it to a TRUSTED INDEPENDANT SHOP and have them do a cooling system flush AND a good seperate heater core flush. and then new coolant.

Should not cost even a quarter of the $1600. for core replacement. and worht trying.

the dodge journey from what i have read is a dual zone heater core one for the drivers side and one for the passenger side which would be the reason one side hot and the other side cold,,,,,,,if the flushing doesn't improve it enough check out the short cut heater core replacement videos easy to get to compared to going by the book and tearing out half the dash just to get to it,something to consider good luck on what ever you end up doing and please report back on whatever you find out to help others here
