Lenyyz
Took delivery of a loaded 2010 Journey SXT (FWD with 3.5 Litre, 7 passenger)......being a mechanic (ex-Ford dealership mechanic) and pretty much a life long Ford owner I told the salesman that I was a little apprehensive about purchasing the Journey but I like the look, ride and room the Journey has to offer. (Didn't find anything really comparable to the Journey on the market.) Besides the numerous Ford products I have owned over the years I also purchased a new Mazda 3 in 2004 (Still going strong with 240,000 kms) that has only recently required a little bit of suspension work. I bought the Journey and had high expectations. To my dismay within 1 week the engine developed a significant lifter sounding ticking noise. I contacted the service department at the Dearlership and scheduled it in for service. When the vehicle went in it had 1500 kms and the mechanic said it sounded like lifters as well. They inspected the vehicle and ordered parts. (to correct the ticking noise and shifter issue) Dropped the Journey off......picked it up after repairs (invoice states they changed the rocker arm) and low and behold within 15 minutes the ticking was back the same as before. Contacted the dealership and was told to drive it over the weekend since the technician stated that it is common for the lifters to be noisy when new (unfortunately the technician is not aware that I am a mechanic and know full well the his statement is false....the service advisor is aware I am a mechanic/technician) Bottom line....not impressed so far......sad to say. Is this issue that common place with this 3.5 litre?
Saltydog
No it is not a common issue for the 3.5L to have lifter noise after warm up. My 3.5 will make a very light ticking when it is cold, but only for about 1-2 min and thats it. My family has had numrous Chrysler products and three od them having the 3.5L and none have given any issue. I would take it back and make the dealer fix it. ual147870
My 2009 R/T has the same problem. I attributed it to the fact that the top of the motor is all plastic and was possibly amplifying the sound. I also get terrible milage...about 13.5 in around town driving. Although I am NOT a mechanic, I understand engines. Could this be somthing that I am concerned about? It really doesn't bother me as I can only hear it OUTSIDE the vehicle. Thanks if anyone can educate me. Joe

sd153
original owner of a 2009 rt with a 3.5L. also developed a ticking noise after about a year of driving. dealer changed one lifter and the noise was reduced but is still there. now they say what i hear is normal. tranny has always shifted rough and is whinny. again dealer says normal for a journey. life time on the powertrain so i will take a break from the stress of many more trips to the dealer for a while. hopefully it wont blow up in the mean time
journeymanny
I used to own a 2010 SXT and it had the ticking noise, turned out it was the intake manifold assembly. It was replaced and the ticking was gone.
