COsxt Posted yesterday at 12:57 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 12:57 AM Hi everyone, first post here and I’d like to start by saying all the information covered on this forum by everyone is awesome! I’m a member of other forums for other vehicles and this forum is definitely in the top few! Now, onto the issue. My wife’s 2014 journey sxt 2.4L is having some issues. On our last trip to CO, during 10 degree weather, the radio didn’t come on during a start up. After looking at all the tips and tricks I pulled the fuse to no avail, disconnected battery over night with no luck and have tried holding the volume and tune, pushing the eject button, putting radio into dealer mode etc.. nothings worked. Fuses are all good, I even went to the extent of removing the radio and opening it to inspect the board, which looks fine. I also went to the extent of ordering another factory radio, matching the same exact model numbers etc, and it does the same exact thing. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this? It’s obviously not a power to radio/ screen problem because it comes on in acc. I doubt dodge would run to separate power wires for acc and run modes. Only thing I can think of to do next is check incoming radio power voltage while switching from acc to run and see what happens. If anyone has any insight or suggestions I’d appreciate it! Thanks all!
Dean H Posted yesterday at 05:26 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 05:26 AM (edited) You need to have it scanned with a higher level scanner. One that can communicate with all the modules. The module that runs the display screen is called the TGW - Telematics Gateway module. It has a list of codes for it. Do this and post the codes. Then, I can check my resources. COsxt Posted yesterday at 07:05 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 07:05 AM Are you thinking it may be the screen? It comes on in acc right away, everytime, with no issue. Would the TGW have any variation from ACC to RUN? I have a high end scanner at work that I will hook up to the vehicle and check modules. I will post any codes I see, thanks! COsxt Posted yesterday at 07:09 AM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 07:09 AM Btw. The replacement radio also does the same thing. It turns on right away when in ACC, everytime. As soon as you switch to RUN or start the car, screen goes black and all controls are dead. I assumed it may have been a module in the radio but having the same exact problem with a separate “tested” radio is telling me different. 5rebel9
I'm kind of lost with your postings. This is the big screen{8.4"} display and everything works in ACC mode of PTS? Does the screen totally black out and no display/ function in run mode? Do the manual controls work although not being displayed? I'd think there is another fuse for power in run mode verses acc mode There are factory service manuals posted on the site here, look it up and find a schematic for radio/information unit. I've heard of the big screen unit going bad and going blank.whereby you can't see or make changes thru the big touchscreen. A few more specifics of situation would be most helpful.... keep in touch. COsxt
8.4” screen, everything works in acc mode. I don’t have controls of hvac when in acc, which is normal operation. As soon as I switch to run or even start the engine the screen goes and stays black, none of the hvac controls work when in run or with engine running. Every once in a while on start up the screen will quickly flash like it’s coming on but goes off right away. All fuses have been checked and replaced. I don’t think the screen is actually bad because it works just fine in acc mode. There’s something changing in the radio or screen or something when switching to run or starting the car. That’s why my next idea was to monitor power voltage going into the radio when going from acc to run, to see what happens, wether voltage drops off completely, lowers too much to power radio, or whatever it is that’s going on
