Saltydog
I think it is normal for the trans to work like that when cold. What kind of temp are you operating your car in?
Deckster
Mine does that when it is below -25C and I haven't let it warm up for 5-10 minutes first.
drb227
My 2011 Crew with the Pentastar V6 will take a few minutes to shift into 6th when I first leave in the morning when the temperature is below zero. Normally something like 3 or 4 minutes, once the tranny has warmed up enough. I think this is normal. My wife's Ford Fusion does the same thing. mcb9576
I just picked up my 2011 DJ Crew the other day. I notice that if I accelerate slowly from a light the trans hesitates abit going from 1st, 2nd, 3rd. If I am more aggressive with it, it goes through the gears nice and smooth. I haven’t had any issues in 5th or 6th, highway runs great. Only been -5c here recently. Any ideas?

zmttoxics
If I were you, I would get the remote start installed. That way you get your car warmed up before you hop in.

Tinboat
I bought my new R/T in June of 2009. It too will not shift into 6th gear UNTIL the trannie warms up. Normal operation. I've got 28,000 miles so far with zero problems. Change oil, filter and rotate tires! :D
tisher73
I used to have a dodge dakota and it did the same thing. There is a sensor under/around the battery. I put a new battery blanket in and works just fine. Just my .02.
mrlux
My Ram 1500 does that when it is cold weather. Haven't noticed it on the Journey yet but then it is Spring here in Oklahoma. Supposed to be 90 degrees today. LOL
2011mainmango
yea this is normal, my charger's transmission does not shift smooth and lags a lot rpms when its shifting and its cold. just let the car warm up a bit and you should be fine. Intrepid
I purchased a new 2011 Journey SXT a few months ago with the Pentastar engine and I too have the transmission delay/pause problem when first getting the vehicle to move from a stopped state. It's like there is a hole in the acceleration curve for an instant and then it takes off. It's definitely the transmission though since if you put the gear shift into the manual mode and shift gears yourself, all is fine. I haven't had the vehicle through REALLY cold weather yet so it should be interesting to see how that affects it. I have already taken it into the dealership once re this problem, but their response was there is nothing wrong.
tyre
My wife notices the same delay in shifting in lower gears when slowly accelerating. I'm a little heavier on the gas pedal so I don't really notice it but nice to know she's not crazy. asargent7
fooe
My wife notices the same delay in shifting in lower gears when slowly accelerating. I'm a little heavier on the gas pedal so I don't really notice it but nice to know she's not crazy. Ive notice a problem with my 3.6 engine 6 speed tranny as well . If i want to go at 55 mph and accelerate slowly to 55 mph the tranny wont shift into 6th gear.if i accerlerate hard and go past 55 to 60 and ease off on the gas it will shift into 6th. Does my tranny need a flash .Just got the vehicle 2 weeks ago. When its not shifting into 6th gear its rpm is around 2000. When its in 6th the rpms are around 1200. Big difference in fuel economy.Any ideas out there?
bigtsr
Yes I would say a visit to the dealer is required as my '11 6 spd shifts to 6th at or about 60 kph under normal acceleration. Try putting in manual shift then shift at 2k rpm up to 5th while keeping it under 60 kph then slowly accelerate to 61/62 kph and manual shift to 6th,you should see it shift at that point. If i manually shift it to 6th gear it will go to 6th. im.going to the dealer tommorrow but from the answers i was getting like thats maybe the way it is i feel that it is not going to be a good visit. lol maybe thats the way awd are. bigtsr
"55mph " I am going to assume you meant 55 KPH. Mine will not got 6th at 55 KPH-the 6 flashes then reverts back to indicate 5th gear. I used KPH as you showed Canada as location 60 KPH = abt 40 MPH. No you assumed wrong.I meant 55 mph for our american friends or 90 kilometers.I have to manually put it into 6 th gear.to get the rpms to drop to about 1200.Then it stays in 6th gear untill stopping .then same old thing getting back to 90 kms. bigtsr
Ok on the kph-the point I was trying to make was that mine shifts to 6th while in Drive at 60 kph under normal acceleration on a flat stretch of road. Under 60 kph if I shift to manual it indicates 5th gear and above 60 kph it indicates 6 th gear. Sorry if I was as clear as mud.

Went to the dealer today. They saw what it was doing and took another new awd out to try. It wouldn't shift into 6th also at 85 k's. Told me i would have wait for a upgrade of a program if there is enough complaints. In the mean time ill have to shift it manually into 6th at 85 kmp. i Shouldnt have to do that for a 30,000 dollar vehicle.
bigtsr
"If they have enough complaints" You had better find another dealer or start calling Canadian customer service directly that sounds like a cop out. Maybe they got 2 defective RTs awds all the more reason to try another dealer. Certainly doesn't seem right to me.
caperinmuskoka
What RPM were you at in 5th doing 85 KPH I can check my 2012 R/T with your stats. However I don't drive mine very much, the wife does so I have really no input to tell you....... I can drive it and tell you what RPM I at in Auto-stick 5th and 6th gear and just in autmatic doing 85 KPH...... ..................Caper............
