JosephLennemann
Later this week I will be hauling a 1990 Chevy Covair twelve hours using a tow dolly. What gears should I use? I know with my dad's truck you just hit a button for towing, but with this car it's different. I was thinking 6 on the straight and 5 on the hills. Please help. OhareFred
Usually you should not tow in overdrive even if the road is flat. I'd double check the owners manual or online with Dodge, but I'm pretty sure that's what they will tell ya. Travel safe!
JosephLennemann
So I should haul in 5th gear then? I'm guessing 6th gear is considered over-drive?
OhareFred
Yes, tow in 5th as 6th gear is overdrive, to the best of my knowledge. Haven't towed with mine, but when going through the mountains kept it in 5th and cruise was able to hold speed fine. In 6th I would lose speed, then drop to 5th, speed up, back to 6 and repeat. Was kinda driving me nuts

Ummmmmm......I hope that is a typo as Chevrolet hasn't produced the Corvair since the mid-60's. Or did you mean Camaro or Corvette? As to what gear unless it's absolutely flat I'd just leave it in 5th or 4th as needed.
