steond
I heard yesterday in German radio, that Volkswagen recalls all vehicles equipped with 2.0 diesel engine produced from 2009 until nowadays because of possible fuel leaks from fuel pipes. They also mentioned that the recall represents approximately 300.000 vehicles from VW fleet. The specification of the VW recall fits to my vehicle - 2.0 CRD engine produced by Volkswagen from 2010. Does anybody know is there a recall also for us (CRD owners) or TSB or something concerning this issue? Appreciate any info.
bramfrank
The engine is one thing. The fuel system is another. If your vehicle is subject to a recall and if Chrysler has your address on file you wil be receiving a letter from them. If you do not have your vehicle registered with the manufacturer you can either contact Chrysler with your VIN or visit a dealer to find out if there are any oustanding recalls for your CUV. steond
I don't think that the engine and the fuel system are two different things. Chrysler doesn't produce its own diesel engine, therefore bought one from Volkswagen. I am not a real specialist, but I assume that when Chrysler bought an engine with new fuel system, also bought all technology related to it - such a turbo charger, fuel injection system, fuel delivery system etc. The recall issue - I have never received anything from Chrysler. I purchased my vehicle in Belgium (because I was stationed there), than I moved to the Netherlands (another assignement) and this year I will move to the Czech Republic. Despite the fact, that all those three countries are in the European Union, we are not very united and the country beside yours is always a "foreign country". With my proffession, when I change address at least every three years, I wonder where the letter should be :dreamy: Fortunatelly, I have another dealership of US cars in vicinity, so I'll see tomorrow. Thanks God for this forum, which is a real nice source and sharepoint of all experience etc.

Official Dodge Support DodgeCares Posted January 17, 2012 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) I heard yesterday in German radio, that Volkswagen recalls all vehicles equipped with 2.0 diesel engine produced from 2009 until nowadays because of possible fuel leaks from fuel pipes. Steond, I would need your VIN to check if Chrysler has issued a recall on your vehicle so if you want to PM me your VIN I will check. I have included a copy of the VW press release below to see if you believe yours may be included based on the VW criteria. Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s): AUDI / A3 2010-2012 VOLKSWAGEN / GOLF 2010-2012 VOLKSWAGEN / JETTA 2009-2012 VOLKSWAGEN / JETTA SPORTWAGEN 2009-2012 Manufacturer: VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC Mfr's Report Date: SEP 30, 2011 NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 11V490000 NHTSA Action Number: N/A Component: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL Potential Number of Units Affected: 168,275 Summary: VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL 2009-2012 JETTA AND JETTA SPORTWAGEN VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2008 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, MODEL YEAR 2010-2012 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, AND MODEL YEAR 2010-2012 AUDI A3 VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 2009 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 2011, THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L TDI COMMON RAIL DIESEL ENGINE/CLEAN DIESEL ENGINE. THE FUEL INJECTION PULSES COULD COINCIDE WITH THE NATURAL FREQUENCY OF THE INJECTOR LINE #2, IN SPECIFIC LOAD AND RPM CONDITIONS. THIS RESONANCE CREATES ADDITIONAL STRESS IN THE FUEL LINE. Consequence: DUE TO THE RESONANCE CONDITION, INJECTOR LINE NUMBER 2 COULD DEVELOP SMALL CRACKS WHICH COULD LEAD TO FUEL LEAKAGE. LEAKING FUEL IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, MAY LEAD TO A FIRE. Remedy: VOLKSWAGEN WILL INSTALL AN IMPROVED FUEL INJECTOR LINE FOR THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER AND WILL INSTALL VIBRATION DAMPERS ON ALL OF THE INJECTOR LINES. VOLKSWAGEN AND AUDI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS TO HAVE THE VEHICLES REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING NOVEMBER 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987. steond
Dodgecares, many thanks for posting the recall notice here. I am pretty sure, that all Journey CRD owners should be subject of recall, because we have exactly same engine like the VW Golf has. It is 2.0 Common Rail Diesel engine. I will also mention this tomorrow at the dealership to see what they´ll reply.

I will keep my eye on it and if I find anything about this issue I will post it.
steond
Update #1 I talked today to the nearest dealer and he told me there is NO recall for Dodge vehicles equipped with CRD. He said, that the engines are Volkswagen, but different ones than in the VW models. So, now there is a question: "What the hell the engine is like? Manufactured by VW, but not placed in any VW car? Better or worse???" By the way, the VW recall applies in Europe as well. Just talked to my colleague with 2010 VW Golf, and he has been recalled. bramfrank
Like I wrote, they may well be using the same block and heads, but a different injection system. If your vehicle will be subject to a recall you will get a notice, as long as you are the owner of record in Chrysler's database. If you really want to now just call the local dealer with your VIN, though it will mean nothing if Chrysler decides to issue a recall a month from now. Just because VW is recalling cars doesn't mean that Chrysler is too, and certainly not before VW - assuming your vehicle IS affected, no recall will be issued until VW engineers a solution, tests and gets the fix approved. Then, and only then would Chrysler start looking at their response. Note that Chrysler USA may not have a record of the recall status for your vehicle in any case. George_R
I to have been querying a similar issue with regards to faulty diesel fuel injectors. It is a well known fault and recall within the VW/Audi community but nothing has been passed to Dodge. I have spoken with technicians at Audi and they confirm that my injectors are the faulty ones but won't replace them as part if th recall campaign as the vehicle is a Dodge. I have explained this to Dodge customer services however they will not contact Audi and query this. My next step is contacting Audi customer services and see what kin of response I can get. Apparently the injectors fail and will cause the vehicle to cut out and will not restart. Others complaining about the engine hesitating and poor fuel economy. Both of which I am suffering.
