RebootIT
Good Day All, I am as new to this forum as I am to asking for help on them. So sorry if I am not in the right place, but here it goes. Two years ago i bought a used 2009 Dodge Journey. My daughter borrowed the car and when she brought it back to me it had a weirdness. When the "lock" button (not the unlock button like I have been reading about) is pressed ever so softly the parking lights flash, the horn chirp doesn't sound the locks go up and the windows go down leaving the vehicle wide open for anything. So to resolve the issue I tried replacing the battery thinking this was the sign of a weak/dying battery - that didn't fix it. I asked the dealership about it and I was told "well I have never heard of that, but if you want I can hook it up to the diagnosis machine for $40?". With that I thought well you guys are idiots and just started using my second key fob. It has been a year and a bit now since the first key fob started doing this and now my other key fob is doing this too. Yesterday, while at work - (I'm in IT) I was rolling around on the floor running some cables for some new workstations with the key fob in my pocket and I guess I pressed the "lock" button. This was around 9:30am. At around 11:55am a co-worker came to me and asked if I drive a green Journey. "No mine is blue grey I replied. Why? Oh - well there is a Journey in the parking lot with the windows down and the GPS in the dash. Oh, that sounds like mine". I go outside three and a half hours after rolling around on the floor and unknowingly pressing the Lock button on the FOB to find my car with the windows almost fully down. Oh and just to put some icing on this possible theft we had a blizzard yesterday so there was about three inches of snow on the seats and on the dash and on the floor and on the center console and in the heat vents. So I get on the phone today with Chrysler to inquire about this issue. "This issue is new to me, I have never heard of it - but because your vehicle is out of warranty I will make a note of it and record your issue. So if you want to take it to the dealer, they are the techs and they can have a look at it for you. Thanks for calling Chrysler Canada, have a good day! Bye". Also I forgot to mention that is I lock the doors from the inside everything is fine until the lock button is pressed, this is what I have been doing. But if anyone out there can offer some sort of insight into this issue I would be very appreciative. Thanks, Edited January 20, 2012 by RebootIT

Vedasmom
I just bought a used 2009 Journey SXT as well. I am talking I still have 30 day temporary tags. I have started having the same issues. When I bought the car it came with two keyless entry keys. One worked. The other didnt. I assumed that the one that didnt work just needed a battery. I just used the one that was working. For a while it was working fine. Then it started getting touchy where you had to press the button just the right way to unlock. Now I can almost never get it to work to unlock. That means that in order to unlock the vehicle I have to pull the standard metal key out to unlock the doors. When you open the door the alarm goes off and you have to quickly start the vehicle with the key system put back together to get the alarm to stop. Since I have been having this issue, I have been having the same concerns with random unlocking and windows going down. The owner's manual says that you should be able to push the unlock button one time and then hold it down a second time to make the windows go down. That is not at all what I am doing. As a matter of fact, the buttons barely work. At random times when I am getting into or out of or walking away from the car the lights will blink or the doors will lock or unlock (usually the opposite of what I want them to do) or the windows will go down. I LOVE my journey but this is getting frustrating. I have considered getting replacement batteries. I have considered replacing the keys all together. Both are very expensive options and I don't feel that either is a garauntee at this point. I dont know if it is as simple as the battery being low (4.5 years old) and just getting wacky. Any advice would be appreciated.

redtomatoman
You should try replacing the batteries, certainly. Hope that works to solve your problems. If not you may have a larger system problem that needs to be addressed by your dealer. If the DJ is new to you with less than 30 days of ownership, the dealer should be willing to work with you and service for a reduced price or free of charge. Best of luck. Peace. bigtsr
Before any monies are spent on resolving your problem the first and basic thing to do is reset the TIPM. Disconnect the car battery and let system discharge residual voltage potential set on the CanBus (may take 10-20 min). Reconnect and check to see if problem cleared. On the Mopar computer intensive system one glitch does a lot of wierd things. Again this may be related to wiring as it's a 2009.
Official Dodge Support DodgeCares Posted March 20, 2013 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted March 20, 2013 (edited) The cheapest thing to try is to open up the fob where the battery goes and take a look. Is it corroded? Is it dirty or filled with crumbs or dust? Clean the battery off with rubbing alcohol and reinstall. You may also want to take a q-tip and clean the contacts. Blow out any debris that has accumulated. It is hard to tell what the FOB may have gone through before you owned the vehicle. Many go through the wash and all other kinds of situations that can cause them to work improperly. If none of that helps, replacing the batteries would be the next option in my opinion. Those batteries are at least going on 5 years old if they have never been changed so it may be time for replacements.
