redtomatoman
The navigation directions only display intermittently in my EVIC. Ei Tther I'm doing something wrong or there is a problem. Any advice? Anyone else experience this? I do have the option checked in settings.
bigtsr
By EVIC screen do you mean the one in the cluster or the 4.3/8.4" display?
redtomatoman
Yes. The EVIC between the speedo and tach. Sometimes the turn by turn directions appear and sometimes not. I did select that option in settings. I can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated. Peace.
redtomatoman
Ok. After navigating a few more places. The display works but it seems to only show up literally 5 seconds before the turn. Is there a way to have the next turn info stay in the EVIC the whole time rather than reverting back to the speedo or previous setting between turns? Thanks. Peace. drb227
The EVIC NAV info is only meant to show up when you are nearing the next turn to alert you to the fact that a turn is coming up, even though the voice guidance will also alert you at the same time. For me, it is way more than 5 seconds before the next turn and it works just fine. As far as I know, this can only be turned on or off. redtomatoman
Hmmm. . . Mine does not seem to correspond with the navigation voice. I will keep using it to see how it behaves and post an update. I am thinking that maybe some sort of flash update is needed because the EVIC is kinda unuseful the way it has been behaving. Peace. air1rfc
Mine works as drb227 posted. However the voice and the EVIC showing up does not always match. The EVIC usually starts to show the turn first. Also one other thing to consider. If you press any button normally used for EVIC the turn or Nav message will disappear from EVIC. It may or may it come back on for that turn or fork in the road sending on how early it was telling you. There are some differences in the Nav for the US and Canada i have also noticed. They work the same but when I cross the border I get the speed limit show up. On Canadian roads we do not get that message. Funny thing is the speed you are traveling shows up as red if you are over the posted limit. Driving in Canada we seem to have more of the images that show up of the highway signs then when driving in the US. One final difference is in the US you can get the weather and gas prices. That service is not available in Canada.
AstralRT
Maybe I should start a new thread, but I'll ask it here first. As any had their Garmin nav (I have the 8.4N) crash and restart when looking for a location? A few days ago I was driving and used the voice command to search for something, it was taking a while to search so I backed out of the searched and tried it again and still took while, so while searching my wife switched to the radio and back to the nav and tried the category searches, I then jumped in with another voice search and part way through talking back to me the Nav crashed and restarted. Once it came back I stopped and used the spelling input and found the place no problem. I'm thinking I just overloaded the program which caused the reboot (of the Garmin application only) but was curious if anyone else saw this happen before? doubleO7
Last week, I went to Washingston state just south of us here in BC, and used the Nav for the first time. I wasn't aware that the turns showed up in the EVIC display, and was pleasantly surprised when the turns showed up there. The turns showed up about 1.6KM (1 mile) before the turnoff and was displayed continually on the EVIC until the turn was completed. Found it particularly nice when we had to go through the roundabouts, as I knew way ahead of time which exit to take. doubleO7
Here is a further update on when the turn indicator shows up in the EVIC. For non freeway driving it will appear up to 1.6km (1 mi) before a turn. On the freeway, the turn will appear in the EVIC up to 3 km (1.86 mi). kritter
I know it has been a while since anyone posted on this topic, but I have experienced the same as redtomatoman. Just purchased a 2011 Journey and was using the Nav quite often this weekend. Sometimes the turns would show up in the cluster and sometimes not. I would expect this to work all the time. I may depend on which screen is being displayed on the EVIC, due to activity on that screen , but I tried with several others with no luck. Has anyone had similar issues with the next turn only showing up intermittenty?

Has anyone had similar issues with the next turn only showing up intermittenty? I do not use the EVIC display for navigation. It is simply too slow. Whenever I need good solid directions in a place that is unfamiliar, I switch to the Nav screen on the 8.4. If I am navigating a place that I am relatively familiar, I sometimes rely on the voice only. I just upgraded to the 2014 maps which seem better. Not sure if that would have any effect on the EVIC. Doubt it. Haven't tried it. Peace.
kritter
Definitely a flaw in that interface, then. Wondering if the newer models have the same issue? I wouldn't think that just upgrading the maps would really do that much. It a hard $150 pill to swallow for the ugrade, but that's a gripe for another thread.
