Rattle Noise Over Bumps on Front Passenger Side

Recommended Posts

my 2004 caravan had a similer noise for a long time could never find it and it kept getting louder and i finnally found it was a bar behind the engine that had bushings on both ends and right side i dont think was tightened up tight enough at the factory and the rubber bushing had sliped out of the bolts that held it. of course it was on sunday and i had to drive about 300 miles to get back to work so i was able to lube it up a little and got it baack in and then tightend the hell out of it the other side was fine . solved the problem good luck

My Caliber was developed something similar a couple of times, on both sides of the car. in our case it was lower ball joint, and while it did rattle on bumps, it was more apparent during stop and goes (could hear a clunk). You could always try jacking up the DJ and with the wheel off the ground, grab the wheel on either side and see if there is any play/wobbliness. if there's any play, then you might have suspension issues.

I'm not sure if this is your problem, but at 90,000 miles I developed a rattle in the front end while going over bumps. Took it into the dealer and they said the outer tierod was about ready to fall off. So they changed it and I picked it up, but it still had the rattle. Took it back and they said the inner tierod was also bad. I guess they stopped looking when they found one thing wrong....thank goodness for that Lifetime Bumpe-To-Bumper Warranty!

Happy Motoring...

Try grabbing the front wheel on the side the noise is coming from and aggressively try shaking it from left to right as if the car was making a turn. If there is any noise or free play when doing this, it's probably a tie rod end. Both of my inners are shot. Parts currently on order.
