Darryl78
Good evening folks, My journey is now 6 months old, and this is the first time that've have been able to enjoy the AC, So when the AC first runs for about the first 5 - 10 mins It has a sour smell, it happens almost every time we use it, after those first 5 - 10 minutes it's all gone, and dosent return untill we use it again the next time. Any thoughts on this before a trip to the dealer? Is it normal for the initial runs of AC and will it go away?? Thanks for your time Darryl

bigtsr
Pull the cabin filter out and spray it (lightly) with Fabreze or alternately put a FEW drops of your favourite car deodourizer on it.I done this a few times thru the years.

Fdavey55
I had this same issue with a Toyota I once had. If you use the recirculation feature then condensation tends to build up in the vents, when you shut the vehice off then all that moisture just pools and sits. If left it will cause a musty / sour smell. I found if you turn the recirc off on the last 2-3 miles of your drive it will dry things out and eliminate the smell. It took about a week to fully get rid of it but it worked. Like bigtsr, I too have Febreezed my cabin filter, it works well but you need to elimnate the moisture also. Good Luck! probak118
Live next to a Chrysler Mech, air conditioning specialist. He has always told me to run the air with fresh air setting for the first 4 -5 minutes to remove / eliminate the formation of condensation in the vents. Then, switch setting to recirculate and there should not be an issue.. Sounds like that is exactly what is happening, Edited May 31, 2012 by probak118
twinx1649
Foul Interior Odor Finally Found. It is the dash silencer pad. I've owned this low miles 2014 Journey for a while and haven't been able to pinpoint the foul smell in the interior. I FINALLY removed the seats, carpeting, and center console and found it's the mastic/dash silencer. Since I wasn't going to roll the I.P. to remove the entire silencer, I ripped out everything I could get my hands on. I did replace it with Dynamat and jute as a replacement silencer. NO MORE STINK!!! 2late4u
