Rattles!

2012 R/T center console armrest is rattling when in the full forward locked position. If I slide it back it doesn't rattle so I assume it has something to do with the handle/locking mechanism when all the forward. Also when there is any weight, say 50lbs, or more in the back cargo area something rattles back there too. I noticed it a couple times now if there isnt anything back there its quiet as soon as i put cargo like groceries (or today 2 bags of play sand) there's a loud rattle.

Anyone else notice or have these things happening? A 10 day old car should not rattling!

the only rattling I have in the DJ are self inflicted by metal water bottles. If the consol cover is rattling that much, and you just got it, have the dealer check it. If anything, it should be pretty stiff right now until it's been used a bit. as for the rear, do you have the 3rd row seating? if not, maybe you're putting the weight on a place that's causing the the cargo cover to warp, or slightly open, causing the leading edge to clatter? I have the 3rd row so I only have the small compartment at the far rear, but still haven't heard anything that wasn't self infliced (damn girl guide crap....).

I will. It's going in to get them to look at the tranny tomorrow anyway. I eliminated all self inflicted problems with the console ( took everything out and it still rattles - I am fairly certain it's coming from the mechanism that releases the locking pins). I just thought I would ask before I put it in their hands. I also have the third row seating. And I placed the 4 bags of play sand flat side by side to evenly distribute the weight. I will have to keep an ear on it and see if I can figure out exactly where the noise is coming from

Since you have the 3rd row seating, were the seats down when you were hauling the sand, or did the sand fit behind the third row? I was thinking if the third row is down when the rattling is taking place, it could be the seat belts clips that hang down from the side that could cause the rattling noise. Just a thought, as my 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan, does the same thing once in awhile if the clips are below the level of the window area.
