jkeaton
Yes. When the engine shuts off, you will lose and power steering and brakes. Start with the obvious. Have the battery and alternator tested. Make sure all battery connections are clean and tight. Experiment and figure out how to duplicate the issue so the dealer can diagnose. It's still under warranty I assume. If it were me I'd leave it with them and make them give me a loaner and tell the service advisor to drive it around. Just trying to get feedback, help, or compare experiences with others. I have a 2011 Journey, bought May 2011. I've put about 16500 miles on it. April 2012 the car started shutting off whenever we stopped at stop signs, red lights, & etc... happened probably once a week. Didn't have much concern, wasn't sure if it was bad gas or not. In May, my wife was driving it at about 55MPH and the engine stalled, when she restarted it, the vehicle went into safe mode and had to be restarted a few times to get it out of safe mode. We then decided to take it to the dealer. They replaced a PCM and ran some updates. Recieved the car a week later, and it malfunctioned again on the first day we had it back. Took it back to the dealer, they replaced cam phasers, injectors, and more updates. Recieved it about 3 days later. First day once again it would stall out while driving, but this time it would restart itself and with the delay it would cause the car to buck when picking back up. Kind of like they programmed the code to restart if it stalls in operation. It did stall out completely one time after that, while in reverse and when I we pushed the button to restart it, it would crank for a few second and stopped and automatically recrank again until it finally started. We took it back again to the dealership. This time a "STAR" field tech from Chrysler came out and they replaced the engine wire harness and injector wire harness. Once again we were called on Friday to come pick up the car. We drove towards home and made it 20 miles from the dealership and going up the mountain, the engine stalled again, picked back up and the car went into safe mode. I had to pull over, shut the car off, and restart it. The service department had closed by that time, so I contacted Chrysler and am still waiting to hear a response from them as to what they can do with the car. The engine light will come on every now and then, but it usually only stays on until the car is restarted again. So, I've been paying for this Journey and haven't driven it anywhere other than back and forth to the dealership for 3 months. Personally I'm frustrated with being a test dummy for the dealership and Chrysler "see how it runs now", that sort of thing. I apologize for my rant, but anyone else out there having the same/similar issue with your 2011 Journey? Any advice? Thanks, If it's only stalling when in drive position I would think the culprit would be the crankshaft sensor. When they are going bad if slightly tapped they will cause the vehicle to shut off while driving
Littlemama
I purchased a used 2012 journey about 7 months ago. I started having this same issue about 4 months ago. Some times it will restart on it's own and some times it won't. It scares the life out of me. The first time it happened I did get a crankshaft position sensor code so I had it replaced. It did not fix the issue and I have mot had a code since. This forum has been helpful to tell me what is not causing it. Any more ideas? I'm a single mom and can't afford to get another vehicle. I've been having issues with my 2016 Journey completely shutting off. The first time it happened was 3 weeks ago I was getting off the freeway I couldn't push down on the brakes and I had no power steering. I managed to get the car stopped, had to restart it and then everything was fine. Took it to the dealership and they couldn't find any codes and told me nothing was wrong. Same thing happened again today when I was coming to a stop. I put the car in gear pushed the button and it restarted. This really scares me since I'm getting ready for a road trip. So far I'm noticing this is only happening when I'm running the air and coming to a stop. The dealership hasn't been able to duplicate. Not sure what to do. Tough to diagnose if you can't duplicate it. Good luck! larryl

Shane
Hello I have a 2014 dodge journey SXT. I had have my car stalled twice in the pass whe going down the highway at 65-70 MPH. I had to pull over turn the car off and restart it and no issue at all. I had dodge dealership look at it, they informed me that there was no error code, and no history of any problems. 1 week later same issue happened. Again no issue. Now I was driving today and was slowing down to a red light card stalled on me, I put it in part restarted the car (it struggled to start) and my check engine light came on as well as my traction control light came on as well. I was able to turn my traction control on, but my check engine light it still on. Anyone experiencing this same issue? Currently has 90,040 miles on it. And hoping that whatever this issue is, is covered under warranty OhareFred

2late4u
so did you just buy this journey and you are hoping the warranty from where you bought it? or do you have the max lifetime warranty from dodge? OhareFred
lhboyce
I bought a used 2013 Dodge Journey in October of 2018. Starting in April, I have had intermittent stalling when the car is at a light or in park. No one can figure out what it is and a local service station replaced the air resonator first and throttle body second because they "thought" that was the issue. Well, it keeps stalling and is currently at the Dodge dealer locally. Yesterday they called and said it didn't stall and come and get the car. After reading all these comments, there seems to be guesses at what it could be - but has anyone found what the actual problem is? I'm incredulous Dodge can't even figure it out with all the negative reviews. It seriously is a safety issue and I'm scared to drive my own car, and I can see others feel the same way. I'm hoping someone can respond with a resolution they may have found subsequent to these comments. Thank you.
larryl
If you have a way of recording the issue when it happens do so....then you have proof that the dealer has to acknowledge just a thought jkeaton

kimeo1978
I had this same exact issue and it was very frustrating. My solution to stop the vehicle from shutting down mid traffic was looking at the dodge vehicle recall # S89. I changed my crankshaft sensor on it worked. No more shutting down. Hope this helps jkeaton
redtomatoman
Can you post a link to the dodge recall #S89? Is the crankshaft position sensor easy or difficult to replace? Peace.

Mimiof3
My 2017 Journey crossroad is also stalling. I’ve had the camshaft sensor replaced twice in 2 months and 6 months later I had the map sensor replaced twice. Car is still having the same issues and is now stalling without warning. Any ideas what’s wrong?
