ts1608
Hey, I just got 2 Dodge Journey 2012 :shades: . One for me and my wife and we loved it. Mine got the 4.3" screen and my wife's got the 8.4" screen, no nav and no camera. Do you guys know anybody that can install those two items on both cars? Or at least back up camera? :dreamy: Thank you all and have a good day!!!
forcedintoit
yes, you can add the back up camera. Google part number 82210916AC. I found it online somewhere for just over $300, but can't find the site right now. You'll also be able to find the install instructions on-line. http://www.factorymoparparts.com/82210916ac.html

Lebowski
Sure, it is possible, but it will cost you: you can replace the 4.3 for an 8.4, the upgrade kit is $1799 but it doesn't include a camera. Or you can add navigation to your existing setup with the nav tv uci-11c which should cost roughly the same. Another option is to install a Chinese radio like this one, in Italy it costs around $750. Edit: there's also the lockpick c8 (actually designed and manufactured in Mexico by Ventura Technologies) and this Chinese interface, but these are only for the 8.4. After install, dealer needs to add the Sales Code to your car through their DealrConnect s/w.
Mcgusto82
That Chinese radio looks interesting. Except you loose all vehicle info/menu and AC controls.. Bummer. You can add the back up cam to the 8.4 but not the 4.3 unless its the nav-tv. And that's a pretty penny just for back up cam. I don't think u can add nav to your existing 8.4 either. The software isn't loaded, and I don't think they sell it. Your best bet would be to search for a used journey radio WITH the nav feature, then add a generic back up cam with the lock pick. Or the nav-tv with nav. Again, a shiny (really shiny ) penny.
Lebowski
That Chinese radio looks interesting. Except you loose all vehicle info/menu and AC controls.. While there isn't too much information on that page (and I'm not really interested to ask[*] since I have my custom made solution for less than $100, though I still didn't manage to install the backup cam), in theory you don't: if you look carefully you'll see there's a climate button, so if they reverse engineered the communication to control the AC, they could have as well deciphered the communication for the settings. Edit: in fact there's also a settings button. Edit [*] I could ask if they sell the bezel alone without the radio, so I can relocate the 4.3" screen and integrate the extra screen just above it in the remaining space (there's enough space for an additional 7" screen). I was tempted to do that but the OEM bezel is too expensive. Edited August 4, 2012 by Lebowski

I probably go with nav-tv or lockpick, like I said I want something like factory or at least close to factory. I don't want to do chinese pieces, because they work for while and then they just stop work and then there is no way to get tech support or replacement parts. I went to the dealer this morning and they can't do nav or back up camera on 4.3" screen. On 8.4" they probably can do back up camera, but no nav, To do camera they are charging more than $2500 just for parts. If I want installed it will around $3000, too expensive. Monday I will call nav-tv and lockpick and I will let you guys know what will be the best solution to nab and camera on both of my cars!!!! Thanks one more time for the options. CCCacher
Just curious, no one seems to have asked the obvious question, why didn't you just get vehicles with those options already included?
ts1608
Just curious, no one seems to have asked the obvious question, why didn't you just get vehicles with those options already included? The answer is $8000... If I want all those features I would have to pay much more that I paid right now. There was no option just for those two items. If you want with back up cam and nav you need to go to a different trim level and get a bunch of accessories and that makes the final price to high. And on the 4.3" there is no option for back up cam and nav.
ts1608
Yesterday I called Lockpick and NAV-TV to compare to kits that they have. Lockpick I couldn't talk to anyone over there. Seems like they do not have sales or tech support. The solution is much cheaper than the NAV-TV, but I can't talk to them. So now I am afraid to order something online and then later on if I have problem I won't be able to solve my problems or even return it. NAV-TV gave me so many information about the UCI that I was impressed. The customer service is really good. The UCI interface works in any vehicle with UCONNECT with 4.3" or 8.4" screen. They can do back up camera, navigation on the 4.3" and on th 8.4" they can back up camera, navigation and video in motion. For navigation they use Garmin, which is the same used from Chrysler factory. Everything will work using the touch screen from factory. That is really nice solution and that was the thing that I was looking for. They also have a nice backup camera which I think is the OEM or look just like OEM for Journey. I bought that kit for my both cars. I spent a little on those pieces, but they said if something does not work as I expected I can return I and get my money back. Lets see... I will instal the kit next week, it is all plug and play, and I will post how was everything and how this thing works, just in case there is anybody looking for the same solution!!! ts1608
So.. How much for the kits? The price for the kit is $1999.00 (BACKUP CAMERA INPUT W/ JOURNEY FACTORY FIT CAM + GARMIN NAVIGATION + VIDEO IN MOTION ON 8.4") and the same price on 4.3" screen (BACKUP CAMERA INPUT W/ JOURNEY FACTORY FIT CAM + GARMIN NAVIGATION). I mention that I found them on the forum and they gave 10% OFF. They offered me cheaper solutions. If you want just back up camera on the 4.3" is much cheaper or if you want to do back up camera and navigation, but use your own camera, you will save a couple of hundreds. They offer different solutions, it all depends on what you want to add to the car and how much you want to spend. I bought the complete solution, because I wanted everything on my car and my wife's car, back up camera and navigation on 4.3" and back up camera, navigation and video in motion on 8.4". Just to let you know on 4.3" screen you CAN'T have navigation or back up camera from factory. I believe NAV-TV is the only solution so far that allow you to install an aftermarket navigation and camera on the small screen. The amazing thing is that everything works using touch screen controls from factory. Give them a call if you want to do something to your car talk to Frank (x.101), I talked to him for more than 20 min.
Lebowski
Well, for me that's too much (you could guess that, since I spent less than $100 for an external navigator+cam+assorted mounting materials). You said that you don't want Chinese, but keep in mind that a full replacement radio with integrated gps and including the bezel costs around $500 shipped (go to aliexpress and search "fiat freemont"), and even that it's too much in my book (considering the lack of after sale support). Anyway, it's your money and you're free to spend it as you like. Good luck with your kit!
Mcgusto82
Yeah 2k for each car is way too much for me. I'd rather source the OEM 8.4 nav radio and put it together myself. Actually that's what I'm doing. 😁
Lebowski
Are you sure you can do that all by yourself (I mean, without reprogramming)? Not that I'm interested in the OEM kit (you know, I'm cheap ) but I'm curious. This guy is just swapping one unit for the other, but I don't know if it works because the car has been reprogrammed before: Edited August 8, 2012 by Lebowski

I know if I buy a full replacement radio from Alibaba it will be much cheaper, but how am I supposed to do with my AC controls and everything else that is controlled by the radio? I understand your point of view, but I prefer to go with something solid and I believe that NAV-TV can give all the support that I will need if something happen. And don't forget I get solution for my 2 vehicules. One with 8.4" screen and the other with 4.3". When I was at the dealer they said that was impossible to get a back up camera and navigation on the 4.3" screen I don't know how but NAV-TV has a solution. Check video below: And if you guys want to check the solution for the 8.4" screen check link below:

Actually that's what I'm doing. You can replace the radio, but navigation is separate, back up cam is separate and from all the homework I've done so far the video signal from the universal camera it is not compatible with the radio, that means it will not display the image n the screen. You have to have a converter to modify the video signal and then the image will show up on your screen. I don't know what you trying to do in your car, but this is the information I have so far!!! Looks simple but it is not!!!

It's simple enough if you're confident. I am. Nav is built into nav radios. RB5 is the radio code I believe. It's just software. I have the 4.3s. So it's wired with a sat antenna already. I also have the voice command option, so I'm also wired for Bluetooth. I'm in no rush, besides, what I really want is the back up cam. Nav is ehh.. My iPhone gets me better driving directions and it's faster to use than any car nav I've ever come across. I've pretty much taken my 11 caravan apart several times, installing numerous upgrades. All you need is time. Edited August 8, 2012 by Mcgusto82

Supposedly they'll work with the new radio (not that I trust them too much), and, BTW, even that Chinese radio for $600 is too much for my taste. Sure, an external unit is not as well integrated, but it's 10 times cheaper and they can't blame any possible radio malfunction on it You can replace the radio, but navigation is separate, back up cam is separate and from all the homework I've done so far the video signal from the universal camera it is not compatible with the radio, that means it will not display the image n the screen. Then there's this Chinese (ahem ) audio/video interface for the 8.4 to connect one or more parking cameras. They even have an option to add an external navigation unit. ts1608
Both. I drive an '11 grand caravan. My wife drives the '12 journey with the 4.3 Cool. I am pretty sure you can find something for or '11 Caravan, as a back up camera, on navtv.com. My friend just did one for his wife. And in your wife's the only solutions I found so far is UCI-11C as you can see on my old posts before. If you doing just back up camera on her car you do not need to spend that much money I spent. Take a look on their website. I placed my order with Frank, really nice guy and he explained everything about the piece.
ts1608
Hello... I installed my pieces few days ago and everything worked perfect... Looks just like I wanted, factory look... I did not do videos because I could not be at the shop during the install but I asked the tech to do some and I think he did. I will try to put some videos out here and then you can check it out. The guy charged me 3 hours labor. The worst part he said was to run the back up camera from the rear to the front of the car, next to the radio. I will check with the installer for some pictures or video and I will post here.
