OddJob
When about 12-15C out, something once n a while while driving there are knocks or taps ahead of me towards the dash area. It follows bumps ect, Goes away after being in the sun awhile. Holding the dash panels at the fwd area around defrost and then the main pad dont affect it. Like something just touches something else when its a bit cooler.
annarbor
Hi, I had the same issue with my 2012 R/TAWD. Took it in and the techs found that the air conditioner hoses were not properly clamped and thus tapped on the area behind the dash. They had to pull the engine cover to resolve the issue. The car has been smooth and quiet ever since. Good luck-
mortalalliance
I think I'm getting a similar issue, but it's not frequent enought that I'd really been concerned with. Let me describe my symptons so I can see if we're talking about the same thing. I will intermittantly/randomly get a noise from the front of the dash that isn't super loud but sounds like a "plasticy" creaking/tapping. It's not very loud, but it is noticeable and it occurs approximately 5-10 times in a given voyage when it's misbehaving. I'd always assumed it had to do with some plastic components expanding/contracting.

OddJob
It looks its more the same as what Mortalalliance experiances. It appears to be at the joint between the main dash and that narrow one that goes to the dash with the defrost vent/speaker grills.
mortalalliance
Now that it is winter where I live in the US (and therefore much colder) I am more convinced that this is just the plastic/rubber components expanding and creaking/cracking. I haven't heard any creaking since early fall and fully anticipate not to hear anything until the climate gets warmer.
symbasys
I had this same issue and had the dealer take a look. They put some foam rubber or something under the defrost panel, and now the noise is gone (thankfully!)
