Canadian Paul
Hello all, I use my 2011 Journey R/T only in the winter with winter tires and wheels. Just got the car a year ago. It has been sitting in the garage for most of the summer after I changed the wheels over to the all seasons and original rims. I am now dealing with a rubbing/grinding noise on the right rear wheel only. When I changed the wheels/tires over to the summer ones, my mechanic did not notice any unusual wear on the pads and rotors. Now this noise and it looks like something is rubbing on the rotor. Is this possible after only one season to have to replace rotors and pads on a relatively new vehicle? Mileage is 37000 kms and mostly highway driven. Any help would be appreciated. redtomatoman
Something likely IS rubbing on the rotor. Take it to the dealer. The rotor would be under warranty if something is defective. The dealer will be able to figure out what is rubbing. Peace.
zmttoxics
I hit 20k on my 2011 crew and a pad self destructed driver side rear and left me with a grinding noise. I replaced the rear rotors and pads (got ceramics) for $100 in parts and an afternoon on the hoist with the father in law. It looked like a piece broke of of the pad and was stuck between it and the rotor. Either that or a rock got in there and caused it all. Afterwards we could barely turn the wheel because the rotor had warn uneven (it was the start of a 4000Km road trip :P). Canadian Paul Paul, My only suggestion is to get your vehicle booked in with your dealer. They should be able to take care of you there. I would also recommend talking to the service manager and ask them to explain the technical details as to why this is happening. If you need any help with your dealer, send me a PM with your VIN, Name and dealer and I will look in this for you.
herb
I have had my Journey for 15 months and logged just 22,000 km. The front end has a vibration when lightly braking so I took it in for service. The dealer said the warrenty is only good for one year or 20,000 km. and that I need new rotors at a cost of $350.00 because the original rotors on the 2011 cannot be machined. Anyone have a similar problem.
Mcgusto82
The '11 DJ rotors CAN be machined, unless they are worn down too thin. There's an actual measurement they have to go by. Maybe YOURS is too thin, but not all '11s. Another thing, what do they mean 1year?? Did u buy it used? I'd suggest calling Chrysler directly, they shouldn't be charging u for the rotors. These cars have weak brakes and they know it.
herb
Nope. Bought it new. Was told warrenty on brakes only one year or 20,000 km. Cheap brakes cheap warrenty.

bigtsr
In the past that has been the standard brake warranty on all cars I have purchased from Chrysler. The exceptions occur when they have known problems such as on the 09-10 models when they extended the warranty. If you have a good relationship with the dealer (I have dealt with mine and known the service mgr since 1985) you can most times squeeze a little more out of them by not acting like a jerk,be reasonable but firm with the facts at hand. Brakes are consumables and everybody drives and brakes differently.
herb
Hey mohammadsen I see you you have been to the Erin Mills dealership. I agree with you and its just not only the service dept. but the sales people themselves that are unprofessional. I went and tried Parkway Chrysler to check the brakes and also look into a transmission problem and was told the tranny specialist quit. Not a good sign if you cannot hold on to tradesman. Going to try Team Chrysler in Mississauga and hopefully they have a professional service department. Mohammadsen
Mohammadsen
Yes Team Chrysler is now my preferred dealer. Also another suggestion don't go to Ontario chrysler either.

I don't really want to get too much into this discussion on dealerships but was this the service department or the body shop you dealt with? Body shops are usually a rented part of the dealership and not really part of the dealer, so they say at a couple of dealers I've dealt with.
