Destination
Hi, I'm thinking about getting a hatch strap-style bicycle rack for my 2011 Journey. The bicycle shop employee said that two of three manufacturers he researched did not recommend this type of rack for the Journey. The information was vague, but the employee said it's usually because the way the rack contacts the hatch, it can dent the metal. So I'm curious if anyone is using one, and what brand is it? thanks in advance. P.S. I've considered getting a trailer hitch, but that will be a last resort. I do not like the look of trailer hitches.
bamboo510
I've got a hitch mounted rack on my DJ and it takes about a minute to install, no annoying straps and clips that can scuff up your paint. I had a Yakima trunk mounted bike rack on another car and it was a hassle to take on and off, so I left it on all the time. I think a naked hitch receiver looks cleaner than a strap on trunk rack. Take ease of installation into account.

bamboo510
Picture please I don't leave the rack on when not in use, but I'm going to hit the trails on Sunday so I'll take pictures then. What exactly to you want a picture of? Edited August 30, 2012 by bamboo510
Mcgusto82
The hitch mounted with the bikes. I'm looking to add a hitch, just for the bike carrier. I just want to make sure it'll look good. I have no other need for towing. If u can get the bike rack empty, that be nice

Mcgusto82
That looks interesting. I like it. How does it affect the back sensors?
dirceuximenes
When I go into reverse, the sensor is beeping direct, but just have a little patience everything goes right. Lebowski
You can disable the sensors so they won't bother you.

Lebowski
In the settings menu, rough translation since I'm looking at the Italian manual: Safety/Assistance -> Park Assist -> Off/Sound only/Sound and display

Destination
That hitch mount setup is very impressive. I settled on the Saris Bones 3 after doing some research. It's a genius design, and I like that I can use it on my Miata too. So far so good:
