paxmaster2000
i have a 2012 se avp. love it. the only issue i seem to have is that it feels like it shifts wierd. i took it the dealer and they said that it was fine. the service manager said that the trans is like other trans . he explained the trans works like the trans on a gocart. there is like belts that grab pulleys for different gears. he also stated that it doesnt shift any gears but there is a program in the engine that makes the engine misfire to make it feel like it is shifting gears. is there any truth to this? also the trans is a sealed unit and the fluid is $99 per gallon. bigtsr
Definitely BS time at your so called dealership, who's the service advisor the lot boy!!!!!!!!!!!! Journey 4 cyl auto is 4 spd not a CVT that they described-only the Caliber came equipped with the CVT.
Mcgusto82
who's the service advisor the lot boy!!!!!!!!!!!! This reminds me of when my 11' caravan started having its misfiring problem. They sent me with one one of their "mechanics" on a test drive, Who turned out to be their lot boy. Lol. He even told me that the reason the caravan isn't smooth is because it's not an import. Like an odessey or a sienna. "now those cars have power". No BS, he actually said that. That was the last time I went to that dealer. Edited October 20, 2012 by Mcgusto82

Doesn't sound like any of that is true. An SE/AVP should have the 4 speed, and this is how the transmission works: http://www.allpar.co...sions/41TE.html It's also not a sealed unit. There is clearly a dipstick on the driver side under the hood. The only fluid you should use is Mopar brand ATF+4 and it is about $7-8/qt. The break-in period for mine was about 9,000 miles, and then it smoothed out. At first it felt strange, like it was bucking, torque convertor was vibrating, shifted like a manual with a delay between gears, etc. Now it's fine. This transmission doesn't exactly feel refined or modern since it has been around since 1989. I had an '03 Intrepid with a variant of this transmission and it felt very similar. Traded that car in with 231,000 original miles, when it started having trouble getting into gear first thing in the morning (among a list of other glitches). In hindsight, it could've been doing that because the fluid was original, except for a 5 qt pan drop & filter performed @ 60,000 miles. Based on that experience I'm willing to bet the Journey 4 speed will go the long haul as long as you don't do any neutral drops. Official Dodge Support DodgeCares Posted October 22, 2012 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted October 22, 2012 so when should they mention that there is an update? my car has close to 8k miles on it. i don't drive the car all that much because i have my 00 ram sport. I would mention it to them. Can't imagine they will mention it to you if they do not believe there is even an issue with the transmission. Or better yet, I would take it somewhere else if another dealer is in your area.
