Roof Rack

Recommended Posts

I think they may have installed the roof rack backwards on my wife's Journey. Here are my observations: 1) The rails that go front to back don't look like they sit properly in the plastic ends. 2) There are little triangles stamped into the rails (they look like little arrows), and they point to the back. 3) The cross bars (the two that go across the roof) were mounted backwards.

So I wanted to know 2 things:

1) Can anyone confirm if those little arrows should be pointing to the front or back.

2) I noticed that the rails on our ride are chrome, but I've seen pics where they are black. Anyone know why? Ours is the R/T, maybe the R/T's came with chrome rails...?

I have an SXT. The Factory installed roof rack is all black. There are 2 sets of arrows on the fore/aft bars and they point to the rear of the car. The cross bars when not in use are positioned at those arrows for noise reduction.

Hope this helps

The R/T come with the chrome racks. They didn't give us the rails when we picked it up and I had to get them after.

They suggested not putting the cross rails on unless you were going to use them due to noise. And if you use them to move them back a bit to quiet them. It may reduce mileage too.

We haven't used them yet ourselves.

I'll try to remember to look at mine when I get home this evening, but in the mean time, can you post pics, especially of the ends where you say it does not appear to fit correctly. I'll compare that to mine as well.

Go to your dealership to get a facory roof rack or online. Look in the accesories catalog for the Journey. I think it cost a little over $200 for the kit and installation looks like it would be easy for someone with a little bit of mechanic skills. Drill a few holes and bolt it it.

I would not think it will void your warranty. Now if you end up drilling too far into the roof and through the headliner that is another story :o In the instructions it shows the drill bits you need with some type of stop on it to prevent this. Below is the link to the factory roof rack. I don't know how to attach the pdf file for the instructions but you can click on the link to see the install directions too.
