ENG911 Posted December 23, 2012 Report Share Posted December 23, 2012 I just got back from Canadian Tire and got winter steel rims and snow tires installed on my 2013 Journey RT. Many of you will know about the issues regarding steel rims rubbing on calipers or the issues with finding 19" tires. After reading through tons of post here on the forum and doing some reesearch on my own I can confirm for anyone still looking that this combo of rim and tire works fine. P235/65R17 Tires and X44753 Winter Rims. Canadain Tire Part Number for Rims is 0098942. I went with the Goodyear Nordic Winter. They are on sale this week at Canadian Tire for $150 regularly $200. The rims are a little rich there at $90, but the whole package with tax comes in at $1100. Not too bad. I know you can get thise rims at Costco cheaper. I went there but was put off by the tech who just had nothing positive to say. He went on and on about people have issues with calipers rubbing and how if anything happened your insurance company may not cover you and then told me that I would need to get something from Chrysler saying they approved of the tire rim combo. Anyway I wasn't too impressed. Thanks to the many people who have commented in the many different posts on this issue. Your input was critical. These look great, not too small for the truck and ride smooth. They are on and the snow hasn't arrived yet so I'm happy. Yes you will if the 2012 brakes are like the 2011....I am currently using 16" steelies with my SXT and have absolutely no issues with calipers rubbing. They upgraded the front brake size in mid 2012. I have a 2012, and had to use the x44753 17" rims. The dealer had not checked, and sold me winter tires on the older model rims, and when winter came, they didn't fit. they had to change the rims for the x44753. I recommend you have the dealer check your VIN number and confirm if you have the small brakes, or large brakes.... jctoolman 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ENG911 Posted January 2, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 2, 2013 If your not dealing with the dealership and your journey was built in 2012, you should be able to see the calipers by just looking. The new bigger calipers are huge and way larger than the rear calipers. On the older journeys when you look the rear and front calipers will appear the same size. After the change the front ones are probably twice as big as the rears. I'd take a shot and post it but with my steelies on you can't see mine anymore.
