George_R
Hi there, I have a 2010 Dodge Journey SXT CRD which appears to be fitted with the Convenience Group II package - Adjustable Roof Rail CrossbarsCargo Compartment CoverDriver/Passenger Lower LED LampsUConnect Phone w/Voice CommandiPod ® ControlRearview Auto Dim Mirror w/Microphone It has a RET stereo fitted with handsfree buttons. However when pressing the button it states that it's not equipped with Uconnect. It also has the Ipod integration cable in the glovebox however ipod/iphone will not work. I'm assuming that it will need a Uconnect module and wiring?? Or could they just need programmed by the dealer?? Where should the Uconnect module be located? On the rear of the rearview mirror there are 7 contacts in total however there are only 3 wires attached via the multiplug. Can anyone help me with part numbers for the module and wiring harness for the rearview mirror? Any help would be greatly appreciated Many thanks George
redtomatoman
Hi George. First things first. I have the 2011 DJ, so I may not be the best person for your question. I did some research though. In order for folks on the forum to help you I believe we need more info. Exactly what radio do you have. I believe RET to be a sales code. Here are the radio options for the 2010 as best I can figure out: MEDIA CENTER 230 (REQ) — AM/FM STEREO RADIO AND 6–DISC CD/DVD CHANGER (MP3/WMA AUX JACK) MEDIA CENTER 730N/430 (RER/REN/RBZ) — AM/FM STEREO RADIO AND CD/DVD/HDD/NAV — IF EQUIPPED MEDIA CENTER 130 (RES) — AM/FM STEREO RADIO WITH CD PLAYER (MP3 AUX JACK) MEDIA CENTER 130 (RES/RSC) — AM/FM STEREO RADIO WITH CD PLAYER (MP3 AUX JACK) AND SIRIUS RADIO MEDIA CENTER 830N (REU) — AM/FM STEREO RADIO AND 6–DISC CD/DVD/HDD/NAV CHANGER — IF EQUIPPED Uconnect™ Multimedia (SATELLITE RADIO) — IF EQUIPPED (REN/REQ/RER/RES/REU/RBZ RADIOS ONLY) I think the forum folks will be able to help you more if you know which of the above is in your DJ. As far as connecting the iPod on DJs with the RET sales code, this is what I found: UNIVERSAL CONSUMER INTERFACE (UCI) — IF EQUIPPED NOTE: This section is for sales code RES/REL and REQ/RET radios only with uconnect. For sales code RBZ/REN/REZ touch screen radio and REU/REX/RE1 radio, refer to the separate User’s Manual. This feature allows you to plug an iPod mobile digital device into the vehicle’s sound system through a connector (UCI connector) using an optional connection cable (available through MOPAR). See your authorized dealer for details. Using this feature, • the iPod audio can be played on the vehicle’s sound system, providing metadata (Track Title, Artist, Album, etc.) information display on radio. • the iPod can be controlled using the radio buttons to Play, Browse and List the iPod contents. • The iPod battery charges when plugged into the UCI connector (if supported by the specific iPod device) Connecting The iPod Device Use the optional connection cable to connect an iPod to the vehicle’s UCI connector (which is located in the glove box or center console on some vehicles. This location may vary with vehicle). Once the iPod is connected and synchronized to the vehicle system (this may take a few seconds to connect), the vehicle brand logo appears on the iPod display, and it starts charging and is ready for use by pressing radio switches as described below. Controlling The iPod Using Radio Buttons To get into the UCI (iPod) mode and access a connected iPod, press the “AUX” button on the radio faceplate. Once in the UCI (iPod) mode, the iPod audio track (if available from iPod) will start playing over the vehicle audio system. Hope this helps. Maybe the other folks will be able to help as well. Also, I suggest you read your manual. If you do not have it, Google it. It is available as a PDF download for free from the internet. Good Luck. Peace. George_R
Hi and thanks very much for the prompt reply. The stereo that I have is the RET/REQ sales code which is the first one you listed. MEDIA CENTER 230 (REQ) — AM/FM STEREO RADIO AND 6–DISC CD/DVD CHANGER (MP3/WMA AUX JACK) I did have a read at the manual but there is so much conflicting information on the net that I thought I would ask for advice from folk who knew what they were talking about. I don't want to end up ordering the wrong Uconnect module as so far I have found 3 which are allegedly for my vehicle each with different part numbers etc. I'm prety sure that there is no Uconnect module fitted but I'm unsure if the module kit comes with a new wiring harness for the rear view mirror - which would appear to have a mic built in. Thanks again George
JohnnyRevs
Hi guys. Coming to this late, however, I'm in the same boat as George, I'd say with the same spec car. Likewise, when I press the phone button, I'm also prompted by a message stating that the vehicle is not equipped... So, I've been trying to enquire about retrofitting & I came across this link on eBay for a Uconnect module c/w mic' & harnesses etc:- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Dodge-Chrysler-UConnect-Phone-Hands-Free-Wireless-/320771037964 Do any of you [experienced] guys think this look like a good option for a retrofit ? Many thanks for any advice you can offer, John
Mcgusto82
There isn't many more options for you unless you swap out the radio all together. Price is kind of high for just Bluetooth. Have you tried looking for a used mygig w/nav. Those have the Bluetooth built in. (you still need the mic)
JohnnyRevs
Thanks for the suggestion, McGusto . Took a quick look around and with navigation, units are selling in excess of $500, typically $750+ on eBay. Are there any alternative sites selling such equipment ? Thanks, John
Mcgusto82
Car-parts.com Its a wrecker connect site. Search for a part, you get a list of sellers. Bought stuff on there before. Keep in mind, this is all second hand stuff.
