brian sullivan
I have just purchased a 2012 Journey SXT for my wife. We love it so far but I noticed the other day on a cold start that it ticked for about 1 second after I cranked it up. I just did an oil change with Pennzoil Synthetic at 2200 miles and I am hoping this will help. I have just joined the Journey Forum and would like to know if anyone knows of anything I can do if the Synthetic oil doesn't correct the problem? Thanks for any help! ptcruide
My 2010 with the 3.5 has always ticked on cold start no matter what kind of oil is used.
OhareFred
My 09 is the same way. I've always used Mobil 1 and it still tics when cold for a few seconds. Just the nature of the beast I think!
brian sullivan
That's good to know. Just wanted to make sure it was normal and not something that I might need to be concerned about. I have noticed a lot of newer vehicles that do it every time you crank them. Not only on a cold start but even warm starts. Must be new technology and the way things are manufactured these days.
Brucebotti
My 2012 SXT does the same thing for a second or two. My wife has a 2012 Nissan Rogue She didn't want a Journey because she said it looked too much like a minivan. After I got the SXT, she asks to borrow it all the time, especially when she wants to pick up the three Grandbabies. Sorry for digressing, but her engine sounds like a loud knock until it warms up. We brought it in and were told that it was perfectly normal.
brian sullivan
Brucebotti, sorry about the wife and your car. I know the feeling of the wife wanting to drive your car. My wife borrows my Ram all the time, Lol. It will only get worse if your wife is anything like mine. I took our Journey in to the dealer and they told me the same thing. Other than that we have had great luck so far and really enjoying the smooth ride and smooth acceleration from our 3.6. How many miles do you have on your Journey? caheaton
This thread has been reassuring....the other day it was a cold morning and I noticed my Journey (which had about 200 miles on it at the time) was also ticking a bit. After the engine had warmed the noise was gone. So far, that's the only time I've heard it. A bit of googling showed this to be normal.
