KSJourney
Hey all. I just purchased a 2011 Journey Crew, and have a question re: the audio. I searched a little bit, and didn't see this exact issue. I have the 4.3S screen with the Alpine Audio. When playing radio/cd (assuming other, just haven't tried other sources yet) there is intermittent static through the speakers. It will sound great for a minute or so, then a flash of static, then it sounds great again. I noticed it during the test drive; however, I was in an unfamiliar town with unfamiliar stations so I assumed it was just the radio station (stupid of me I know). It doesn't seem to be related to the volume or anything like that. Has anyone had this issue? If so, was it easily covered under the bumper to bumper? Would I just take it to the dealership to have it checked out? I'm not worried about the problem disappearing while it is there because it seems to happen every minute or two... Rather than start a second thread, I'll throw this out there, too. Reading on here, it looks like you can only play music from your phone through the Aux and not the USB. Is that right? I have a Samsung GS3 if that makes a difference. When I connect it to the USB it will charge. If I select the USB source on the screen, though, it just shows 'USB Error'. Is USB available as a source through the audio only for other devices (external hard drives?)?. Sorry for the newbie questions. I love the vehicle and it seems clean all around, just concerned about the audio issue. Thanks for any replies!
redtomatoman
As far as the audio, there have been quite a few issues with the amplifier. The actual radio unit may be the problem as well. I'd make the dealer sort that one out. Phone compatibility issues are common. Some phones do this while others don't do that. My advice is figure out what your phone is compatible with and use those functions. I use my iPod for music. Seems like our DJs like to be somewhat appleified. Good luck. Peace. As far as the radio issue goes, it should be covered if the vehicle is still under the 3/36 basic warranty. As mentioned above, there are some software flashes and possible replacement of the amplifier and/or radio unit depending on what the dealership finds as to the cause of the problem. KSJourney
Thanks for the replies. I'm under the 3/36 basic warranty until August 2014 (think I'll hit 3 years first since it had ridiculously low miles for a 2011). I'll call the local dealership to see about having it looked at. I spoke to them earlier this week to see about getting the car up on the lift for a basic inspection (more to get a relationship going with my local dealer than anything else since I bought out of town). They seemed cool and only want $15 to check the car out. I'll see about getting it all done at once. It has great sound for a stock audio system, just gotta get rid of that static! Thanks again. There seems to be a wealth of info available on this site. I plan on coming here often (hopefully not too often with issues/concerns!).
