cAs
Hello all, I've had my Journey since December... about 3 weeks after buying it, the edge of the driver seat started to chip off... Has anyone had this issue? Is this something that Dodge can take care of. My legs don't even rub against the seat, All I tried doing was cleaning the seats and "oh damn." Has anyone had the same problem? I have the white leather with orange stitching... Edited June 2, 2013 by cAs
bigtsr
I would suggest to you that's what warranties are for and you should persue that route.
Journeyman425
Take it to the dealer. They will have get a digital image (photo) of the seat in question and send it to Chrysler for authorization. Repairs of this nature - seats, Jeep soft tops, paint issues, etc. require dealer pre-authorization via digital images to Chrysler prior to initiating a repair. Sounds like a new leather cover is in store for you. I'm not aware of any premature leather wear issues on any of these models.

redtomatoman
I didn't even know leather could "chip". Weird. Dodge should definitely warranty that. I'd go completely nuts if they tried to weasle out of it! 3 weeks?!? Peace.
Official Dodge Support DodgeCares Posted June 3, 2013 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted June 3, 2013 My question to the OP would be, did the leather start to "chip" during cleaning and if so what were you using to clean it? If it was nothing more than a damp cloth or maybe some soap I would say by all means it should be covered under warranty. If you used any type of cleaning solution with chemicals in it that could be the cause of the problem. See below. Cleaning Leather UpholsteryMOPAR® Total Clean or equivalent is specifically recommended for leather upholstery. Your leather upholstery can be best preserved by regular cleaning with a damp soft cloth. Small particles of dirt can act as an abrasive and damage the leather upholstery and should be removed promptly with a damp cloth. Stubborn soils can be removed easily with a soft cloth and MOPAR® Total Clean or equivalent. Care should be taken to avoid soaking your leather upholstery with any liquid. Please do not use polishes, oils, cleaning fluids, solvents, detergents, or ammonia-based cleaners to clean your leather upholstery. Application of a leather conditioner is not required to maintain the original condition.
cAs
Hey everyone, thanks for the replies... I got the leather protection plan from Dodge along with the Paint protection and undercarriage liner thingy. They told me that the leather protection should be good for 5 years and that all I have to do is wipe anything down with a damp cloth... that's what I did and unfortunately this happened... I've been scared to clean it ever since and the blue from my jeans has rubbed on to my seats (not cool)... gotta try cleaning it carefully. I tried another inconspicuous spot on the seat and nothing bad happened, so it might just be that one spot... don't know, but I am going to take it to Dodge so that they can take a look at it... Here's a pic i took today... Taking a close look at the pic, I guess it looks like my legs DO rub on the edge... I never feel it though. I'm pretty self conscious about the way I sit because of this reason though Edited June 4, 2013 by cAs
redtomatoman
Its a seat. Why should you have to worry about where your legs rub? Its a seat. Dodge and any reputable service center should have no problems recognizing that the leather is simply wearing prematurely. Especially if you paid extra for some factory protectant! I have a hard time believing that Dodge will not warranty this after 3 weeks. After 3 years, I can see some discussion, but 3 weeks? C'mon. Take it in and state your case. Maybe skip the protectant this time. I have a gut feeling that's the problem. Good Luck. Peace.
