marklee981
So im just wanting to make sure since my dealership could not give me a solid answer to this... When I had my previous vehicle (2005 Chevy Equinox AWD) I was instructed that I needed to pull my boat in 4H so that the car would not shift into overdrive. However with the Journey there is nothing in the manual that states if I should use D or if I should use the Autostick for shifting. What is recommended....I would like to make sure that if I can pull my trailer at highway speeds that I can use D and not have to stick with the autostick
biohazard
I have towed for 3 years now starting with our 2010 and now with our 2013 and have always just used drive on the highway and have had no problems. We tow a popup camper with a weight of 2300 LBS.
Official Dodge Support DodgeCares Posted June 5, 2013 Official Dodge Support Report Share Posted June 5, 2013 Automatic Transmission The DRIVE range can be selected when towing. However,if frequent shifting occurs while in this range, usethe Autostick feature to select a lower gear.NOTE: Using a lower gear range while operating thevehicle under heavy operating conditions will improveperformance and extend transmission life by reducingexcessive shifting and heat build up. This action will alsoprovide better engine braking. If you REGULARLY tow a trailer for more than 45 minutesof continuous operation, then change the transmissionfluid and automatic transmission filter according tothe interval specified for “police, taxi, fleet, or frequenttrailer towing.” Refer to the “Maintenance Schedule” forthe proper maintenance intervals. alainbock
I also tow a trailer close to the max towing weight and when I travel out on the highway. Most of the time, the transmission shift perfect but sometimes hunts annoyingly in hills or on windy days, I use the autostick to lock it down unto 5th gear and it's perfect. When I see a hill approaching, I put it back into Drive to make sure the transmission selects the right gear going uphill.
