jojogg
I changed snow tire and engine ole yesterday. And then after I press the gas pedal the noise is dramatically louder than before. Is it normal for snow tire or they made something wrong when changing engine oil? Thank you
larryl
Snow tires are definitely louder than your regular tire hope its that noise your hearing and nothing to do with an oil change
jojogg
Thank you. I ran more than 60Km to test it again. I heard the engine noice is bigger than before when I press the gas pedal a little bit harder. And if I do not press the gas pedal looks like the noise is only from wind when 100KM/H which means the tire noice should be fine and the tire balance also should ok. And I checked the engine oil they filled looks ok. I talked with them and they mentioned if the engine oil is too low will cause the engine noise. otherwise should be problem with tire. however from my point of view looks like tire is ok. Kind of annoying. jkeaton
What does it sound like? Tire noise and engine noise should sound completely different, however I concur it is more likely your tires. Snow tires are loud. jojogg
The sound is from the engine when I speed up the car. Something likes "Hong, Hong, Hong". The sound is louder than before. Currently I suspect it is the reason that the snow tire plus steal rims are heavier than before so the engine will need more power to speed up. The sound seems ok when I driving at 100KM per hour and I slightly to press pedal to keep the same speed. The noise is only happened when speed up. I will test it more. What does it sound like? I would get your vehicle to your servicing Dodge dealer if possible and immediately check the engine oil level. Your engine wouldn't lose considerable power/performance simply by installing steel winter rims. Keep the thread updated if you can.
jojogg
Thanks for your information. I checked the engine oil level and it is not low. Does the different brand engine oil can cause the noise? BTW, when my car was reaching 20,000KM the dealer tuned the Spark plug and then the sound bacame loader than before. Now after chenged engine oil and snow tire and rim, the noise even loader. jojogg, Any noise coming from your tires versus your engine would again be drastically different. FROGBOX
Thanks for your information. I checked the engine oil level and it is not low. Now after chenged engine oil and snow tire and rim, the noise even loader. Can you explain what you mean by 'Dealer tuned the spark plug' at 20,000 km? That is not normal. Spark plugs should last well over 100,000 km. If you had a shop do the oil change, take it back and have them take a look/listen and take it for a test drive. It could be something as simple as the oil cap was not replaced after the oil change. Crank case pressure may resonate as it comes out of the hole causing that 'hong, hong, hong' sound you mentioned??? If you only hear the noise when you accelerate (load on engine) and is not speed related, it probably is not your tires. The tires would make the same noise regardless if you are stepping on the gas or not. Tires get louder the faster you go, but the noise would be constant with the speed of the vehicle, not the load on the engine. let us know what you find out. jojogg
Thanks for your valuable information. The dealer cleaned the gas Injector something which they mentioned should be service @20,000KM. Since then, the sound became loader when accelerate. I also checked from website someone mentioned that it is not necessary to do so. The sound is only related the acceleration, especially when the car starts to move or accelerate a little bit faster. Could you please explain a little bit in detail of “It could be something as simple as the oil cap was not replaced after the oil change? Crank case pressure may resonate as it comes out of the hole” Any way I will check the engine oil cap this evening. Can you explain what you mean by 'Dealer tuned the spark plug' at 20,000 km? As FROGBOX mentioned, there could be something very simple causing this and should be brought to the dealer's attention again.
jkeaton
Did they get the filter box cover back on tight? (if they checked it duting a "tune up") You could be hearing intake noise if it only does it under acceleration. Similar to adding a CAI to a vehicle. Makes the intake louder under acceleration. Just another thing to check.
