I am not an expert on this...but... When we downloaded tunes from iTunes it would not let us copy them to the car. It was because when you download to a computer it is only that computer that can play the file...licensing or something.

Anyway, I am sure someone can tell you how to get past this.

Most songs that are downloaded via itunes are copy "protected". That allows you to them on your ipod and up to 5 different computers. To copy these songs to your mygig you have to burn cd's of your "protected" songs and re-rip them to itunes. You will now have unprotected copies of the songs as well as the original "protected" songs in your itunes library. Now copy your unprotected songs to a flash drive and install them in your mygig radio using the USB port. To my knowledge, that would be the easiest way to copy them to your mygig.

Cheers

linaso is right. If you purchased the songs from iTunes, the are probably copy protected and won't play if you copy the files to the hard drive. If you put MP3 files on your iPod, then you can copy them from the iPod to the Hard Drive through the USB port on the radio.

Zune... no way. The Zune does not support the USB Mass Storage class, so the front USB on the radio won't recognize it.

What about a sansa view? I tried hooking it up and the car did not see it. I could not transfer or play anything from my ipod. I wound up just taking my lap top out to the car and downloading my library that way. However I just bought a new cd for my wife and out it in the ol journey and hit copy and it burned it to the hard drive and I was able to listen to it but the only thing that did not transfer was the name of the cd or any ov the song titles, they are all just number strings.

Newer CDs will not be recognized in the radio because the Gracenote database (used to get the song names) is not updated with every new CD released. Think of the database contents as a snapshot in time - everything released after that date will not have an entry, so generic track names need to be used.

The best way to transfer files to the hard drive in the radio is to rip the songs on your computer (so the correct song titles, artist, and album name are recognized) and "sneaker net" the files using a USB flash drive. When you rip the disc on your computer, it can connect to the latest Gracenote database which is updated continuously. This way you will almost always get the correct song and artist info in your compressed files.

As for tha sansa, if it doesn't support the USB Mass Storage class it won't be recognized.

I just plugged my Ipod in the the usb port onthe front of the radio using the same cable that plugs the Ipod into your computer, and added the files to the hard drive. I have not had the same luck with any of the pictures.

What model and generation ipod are you using? I have not been able to copy music from my ipod to the mygig HD.

The Zune can support Mass storage. All you need to do is hack it. There are tutorial all over the net showing how to accomplish this.
